National Museums, Scotland. PLoS One: Blue Beach 4-pods. Paleosols talk at GSA, Baltimore. BGS Open Day 2012. BGS Open Day 2013. The Isotopic Framework covers three main themes; stratigraphy, palaeoenvironment (the ancient environment in which the fossils lived) and palaeoclimate. We are using carbon isotope stratigraphy (changes in δ. C that can be correlated across different sections) to enhance the correlation of different sections, linking with the Palynological. O and δ. But responsibility for the c...

National Museums, Scotland. PLoS One: Blue Beach 4-pods. Paleosols talk at GSA, Baltimore. BGS Open Day 2012. BGS Open Day 2013. Recently, as a result of considerable effort by Tim Smithson and the late Stan Wood, an abundance of fossils, not only tetrapods, but also fish, plants and invertebrates, has been found in Northumberland and the Borders Region of Scotland. This project is studying these fossils and the environments in which the organisms lived. To make this site as useful as possible. Manage.

Monday, 31 August 2015. This August was the TW:eed Project’s Microfossil Month at the University of Leicester. With the help of volunteers, we examined many samples from our main field site. The aim was to record the microfossils present in sieved samples, and identify differences in the assemblages present in various rock types and stratigraphic levels throughout the Ballagan Formation. Some of the volunteers this month, from left to right: Jake, Rebecca, Matthew and Kate. Thursday, 6 August 2015. Durin...

Tetrapod World: November 2014

http://www.tetrapodworld.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Monday, 24 November 2014. A day in the life: Volunteer Lab Assistant. This time we have a guest blog post from the TW:eed Team’s Rob Clack, about his recent volunteer lab work uncovering fossil bones! Some time ago, I started looking at material like this that we’ve collected from quite high in the Ballagan Formation sequence. This particular fossil-rich bed has already yielded a large rhizodont cleithrum (see photo) and the partial lower jaw of a large tetrapod called Crassigyrinus. Last week member of ...

Wednesday, 25 June 2014. Hexacopter flight over tetrapod site. Last week Tim Kearsey, along with BGS colleagues Ed Haslem and Pete Hobbs were at our main field site in the Scottish Borders flying a hexakopter survey over the rocks exposed in the foreshore. A hexakopter is a type of model helicopter with six rotor blades. This keeps it very steady in the air and means we can use it to do aerial photography from a low height, rather than an aircraft. The Hexakopter in action over the sandstone beds. I was ...
