Textiles for Two

Wednesday, 6 May 2009. Jungle to the Ocean - Unfinished. A bit late and unfinished but, I had another idea for a bag and just had to go with it. I wanted to depict the Inca in some way. At it's height the Incan Empire stretched from Peru to Chile, from the Andes to the ocean and encompassed many peoples and lands. That is what I have tried to show in the colours and textures. I had some lovely batik fabrics in the colours I wanted to use but wanted to make them a little more personal. Posted by Alis Clair.

Textiles for Two: February 2009

http://www.textilesfortwo.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, 28 February 2009. At the moment Ali. And myself are working towards making bags using our Mesoamerican research as inspiration. These are a few ideas I have been playing around with and I am now making some fabric samples. Hopefully over the next couple of weeks I will be able to show you a finished bag. Friday, 27 February 2009. I find it such a shock, a nice one of course, when something you make turns out just as you saw it in your minds eye. That happened with this piece. This piece is insp...

Textiles for Two: January 2009

http://www.textilesfortwo.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, 29 January 2009. To give us a kick start we decided to make a small piece of art work that would be able to go on a large greetings card. We wanted to show what we first thought of when we said "Maya". As you can see Jan thought of treasure and I thought of the sun. Both these pieces measure around about 3 inches. Jan's Mayan Treasure is made using different handmade papers and painted paper clay with tiny beads. We find it interesting that we used similar materials. Posted by Alis Clair.

Textiles for Two: March 2009

http://www.textilesfortwo.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Monday, 16 March 2009. Alis' bag is finished. Well here is my finished bag. I am rather pleased with it. It has been very difficult to photograph, however. The colour is much better in real life. There are a couple of things I would do differently another time. For one, I should have left more room to cut off the batting round the seams. They would have been less bulky then, especially at the top. I even have some more ideas. Now will I get round to another bag before the end of the month?

JannArt: February 2009

http://jannart.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, 15 February 2009. At last I have found a bit of inspiration. I haven't been feeling very motivated to do any textile work lately but I now have the next week off work and I feel like having a play. This is another book I have made today. This week I am hopefully going to start working on a piece for Textiles for Two. It will be part of a project I am doing with my friend Ali. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Friday, February 27, 2009. A lovely picture and an update. I have always loved the look of, and wanted, a photograph on stretched canvas. Well now I have one and I am very pleased with it too. The canvas came from Bags of Love. Who do lots of wonderful, high quality gifts with your photos. This is not one of the official photos and to be completely honest I don't know who took it, but it just sums up the joy of Laura and Toby's wedding day and I am thrilled to have it now hanging on my wall. We meet once...

JannArt: April 2009

http://jannart.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 28 April 2009. I did actually spend something on myself as I could not resit buying these craft bags to store some of my bits and pieces. My excuse was that it will help tidy my workroom! I just love the colour. I also bought some wire and beads to knit with. Petrol/Kingfisher blue must be my colour at the moment. Sunday, 12 April 2009. JannArt: May 2009

http://jannart.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, 10 May 2009. What to do with leftovers. I had some pieces of fabric left over from making the jewellery swap last month for Unlimited Textiles. I was just about to put them in my hoard to save them for that day 'when I know they will come in useful' when I thought why not turn them into brooches. So here is the result. The fan shaped one just had to have a tassel added on to it. As soon as he realised it wasn't food he quickly lost interest. Thursday, 7 May 2009. Wednesday, 6 May 2009. She decide...

Alis Clair: January 2009

Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Just in time for Valentines Day. The swap at Textile Challenges. This month is for a padded heart to be made in time for Valentines Day. Well, unusually for me, I am on time and here is my heart. The heart panel is made from layers of singed organzas and lots of free machine embroidery. I don't think they show but there are little hearts embroidered with the gold thread. The heart itself is made of patterned velvet and the whole thing is lightly stuffed. It measures 6ins long.

Tuesday, March 24, 2009. The theme for March at Unlimited Textiles. I love arches and ceiling bosses in cathedrals and I remembered a visit we made to Fountains Abbey a few years ago. In particular the vaulted ceiling of the Cellarium. The Cellarium is only inhabited by bats now. Another Gothic feature maybe but no bats here on this quiltie. I used purple satin for the background and cut arch shapes from dark green velour. Tuesday, March 24, 2009. Friday, March 20, 2009. In need of renovation. Machine st...

Thursday, May 21, 2009. Kandinsky and a Bracelet. Well I have been feeling very under the weather and very unsociable but, I have been working quietly away in the background. I am now looking forward to catching up with reading the blogs I love and posting a little of my work. This little 5ins quiltie was made for the April swap on Unlimited Textiles. The theme was the artist Kandinsky. I love the freedom o his work and the colour combinations he uses. Is one of my favourites and this is my version of it.
