New York, Plants & Other Stuff: September 2010
http://newyorkplantsandotherstuff.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
New York, Plants and Other Stuff. Thursday, September 9, 2010. Planted Cloud is Live! Allow me to introduce my new blogging home: Planted Cloud. Though I had promised earlier to name my new blog, DC, Plants and Other Stuff, I've decided to blog on a more global scale. I've been too lucky to travel so much to simply blog about one city's horticultural offerings. I'm also looking for contributors to post on a monthly level - if you are interested, please email me. New York, Plants & Other Stuff: Cibotium glaucum
http://newyorkplantsandotherstuff.blogspot.com/2010/06/cibotium-glaucum.html
New York, Plants and Other Stuff. Wednesday, June 23, 2010. I mentioned the tree ferns that populate the forests near the active volcano at Volcanoes National Park. Today, we'll take a closer look at the Hawaiian tree fern, or Cibotium glaucum. As you can see from the photo above, Cibotium. Can reach heights up to 8 meters. I encountered this forest - the upper canopy consisting of ohi'a and the understory of hapu'u - while walking to the Thurston Lava Tube. The fiddleheads are actually the size of real.

New York, Plants & Other Stuff: September 2009

New York, Plants and Other Stuff. Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Sitting next to those hollyhocks in the Tuileries I had mentioned a few weeks ago, I found an infamous plant by the name of Ricinus communis. Castor oil plant . When processed, the seeds of this plant produce an oil that has been used for a wide variety of homeopathic uses. However, the actual seeds, if ingested raw, can be lethally toxic. The deadly ricin gas is also harvested from this plant. In Latin, refers to ticks). Jennifer G. Horn.

New York, Plants & Other Stuff: Metrosideros polymorpha (and Volcanoes!)
http://newyorkplantsandotherstuff.blogspot.com/2010/06/metrosideros-polymorpha-and-volcanoes.html
New York, Plants and Other Stuff. Monday, June 21, 2010. Metrosideros polymorpha (and Volcanoes! Well, I got back from Hawaii on Saturday and am now squarely within my last days as a full time New Yorker. I'll most likely work Monday - Wednesday for the next three weeks then finish up at my job (save a few hourly tasks to wrap up my Hawaii project). I flew into Kona last Monday morning and immediately set off for Volcanoes National Park. "Why, it's only 90 miles! Now then. Let's get to the plants....

Infra-structured: September 2012

Monday, September 24, 2012. Oslo, a City of Farmers? I braved the awkwardly signed road detours and chain link fences and managed to find the entrance to it on my bicycle during last month's 'open Bjørvika' day. The garden lies at the base of vent towers going down to the traffic tunnel below. Proximity to Bjørvika, one of Oslo's main development zones on the fjord front. There are 100 plot boxes in total, not many people were working them this day. But, things were growing! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
Infra-structured: Traffic machine vs. Human machine
http://infra-structured.blogspot.com/2012/02/traffic-machine-vs-human-machine.html
Tuesday, February 21, 2012. Traffic machine vs. Human machine. I took a walk down to Oslo's ever-developing neighborhood of Bjørvika the other day - primarily to get some pictures of the de-constructing of the Bispelokket. And then the solution for it. The ramp and bridge to the left crosses the rotary directly to the front. Eventually on the other side I came to the site of the old Bispelokket - where not much of it is still intact. The sign here says "Careful! Does the car see you? How should Oslo be?

Infra-structured: 'How should Oslo be?'
http://infra-structured.blogspot.com/2012/02/how-should-oslo-be.html
Wednesday, February 15, 2012. How should Oslo be? Last night at Oslo's center for design and architecture (DogA) opened an exhibition on the conceptual and actual planning for the future growth of the city. The day before, a news article covered one set of concept projects by MVRDV. Plus some local offices, which were meant largely designed to provoke. As seems to be the trend in urban planning, the questions are very clear but the solutions less so. Rather than maps of transportation corridors and ring ...

Friday, August 14, 2015. Back to School.Back to Blogging! By now, most of you have weathered the back to school madness. And If I knew each of your addresses I would send you a bouquet of freshly sharpen pencils to combat the clothes shopping, classroom supply lists, school orientations, and first day tears…just to name a few. (yes, I stole that line from one of my favorite movies, “You’ve Got Mail”). The first thing that popped into my head was my blog. And it’s over! Friday, May 22, 2015. They are full...
