The 1947 Blog

Thursday, 14 May 2009. In 1997, when the New Labour government came into power, the mantra was 'education. This last few years, this has been replaced with (amongst others). Recycle, recycle, recycle'. As if this was something new! During the war years and well through the 50's and into the 60's, I remember recycling meaning 'make do and mend'. Things were made to be repaired, made to last. Does anyone remember a bodkin? This - and the wooden mushroom shape implement that this bodkin was used with? I spe...

The 1947 Blog: April 2009

http://the1947blog.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 28 April 2009. 1947what a year that was, but not until November 7th, when I came into the world, to make it a better place! The NHS hadn't come into existence then and my parents had to pay the doctor/midwife for my birth.if only the costs had stopped there - my father was heard to mutter, as he began to add up all that went with having a little girl over the years! I am writing a family history story, about life as I remember it, it's a 'lovely way to spend an evening' as the old song goes!

The 1947 Blog: About the 1947 Blog

http://the1947blog.blogspot.com/2009/02/about-1947-blog.html

Friday, 6 February 2009. About the 1947 Blog. Blog: http:/ littlehouseinthepaddy.blogspot.com. I'm hoping that this can be a first attempt at a 'blog' that I think could be a bit different. And an interesting 'read' too. My idea is this. Why not have a blog just for people born in the year 1947? The idea is that if you were born on any day between 1 January and 31 December 1947 then you can post stuff here about anything that you think might be interesting to someone exactly the same age as yourself.

The 1947 Blog: My grandparents

http://the1947blog.blogspot.com/2009/05/my-grandparents.html

Monday, 4 May 2009. I spent a lot of time, at weekends, once I had started school, helping my grandparents and listening and learning about all kinds of things which were relevant for later in life. It seemed to be the norm in the early 50's though, didn't it. Grandparents were special people, and they made you feel more 'grown up' than your parents ever did! You knew not 'to overstep the mark' though, or you knew about it. My grandad was a miner and gardener, had an allotment too at one time, grew both ...
