26 Months in DC. Guest post: autumn adventures in DC and Shenandoah. November 3, 2016. I’m continuing to have flashbacks to our time in the States. This is in part thanks to technology – Facebook and Timehop have both reminded me that two years ago we visited the beautiful Shenandoah National Park in the Fall, with our friends from the UK. The National Park also keeps emailing me with photos of the fall foliage, hoping to entice me to another holiday there! 26 Months in DC. I was unexpectedly charmed by ...

26 Months in DC. Guest post: autumn adventures in DC and Shenandoah. September 7, 2015. Welcome to my first ever guest-post on 18 months in DC! This was written for me by my good friend Kate (who also writes a great blog about books, over at http:/ bloggingaroundmybookcase.com/. About her ‘vacation’ with us last autumn. And it would be excellent background music for the rest of this blog. Other highlights of DC were canoeing on the Potomac in the autumn sunshine, watching the Washington Wizards in action...

Going home | 26 Months in DC

https://18monthsindc.wordpress.com/2016/06/04/going-home

26 Months in DC. June 4, 2016. Also, in happier news, I’m now an aunt for the first time, and R’s sister is also expecting a baby this year – so it’s really exciting to be moving closer to family. 8217; people exclaim, and it’s really hard to answer ‘maybe not…’. Because as anyone who has moved countries knows, there’s lots to do! Apart from the packing, there’s all the financial things to sort out – we want to leave in good standing after all! 8211; written by someone who decided to return home on one!

26 Months in DC. All posts by angharadeyre. Expat life: the truth? March 8, 2017. This is another post written just before we headed home to the UK. The other day I took part in an HSBC/YouGov survey about Expat life, which was basically a whole set of questions about whether I thought moving abroad had been good for us, professionally and financially. The cold hard truth is that, no, it hasn’t been that great for us financially. But right now I’d just like a bit more disposable income! One comment so far.

26 Months in DC. February 20, 2017. Was also perfectly positioned that we could stop in for a drink on our way home from one of our walks east along the Thames. (Walking was another American hobby that we kept up this summer and autumn.). View all 5 comments. June 2016 – Leaving DC. February 17, 2017. June was a month of two halves. We said goodbye to the US, and came home to the UK. Buying things to make the flat habitable again, and then we went out in the evening with some friends. Coming home tho...

Missing the States | 26 Months in DC

https://18monthsindc.wordpress.com/2016/11/08/missing-the-states

26 Months in DC. November 8, 2016. At this time when America is so much in the news I’m missing all those things that were America to us. Watching NFL in a bar on a Sunday all afternoon…. Wearing a baseball cap and really casual clothes…. Drinking American IPA in sensible sized pints. Matt Herschberger has written how American casual doesn’t really fit in large parts of London (I reacted to his article here. But I also miss:. Being able to hire a car that we can both drive…. Singing along to country music.

Homecoming | 26 Months in DC

https://18monthsindc.wordpress.com/2016/07/23/homecoming

26 Months in DC. July 23, 2016. But I’m not sure I can write about that debacle yet. So here I’ve tried to capture my various repatriation thoughts and emotions, in the spirit of this blog, but in the knowledge that this is hardly a representative experience…. Trains of thought on returning to the UK in June/July 2016. Oooh, I’d forgotten how pretty the UK countryside is…. Yum Farmers’ markets and proper, unpasteurised cheese! Ah, British pubs and pub gardens…. Surely we won’t leave the EU…? Flashback to...

Flashback to: Austin | 26 Months in DC

https://18monthsindc.wordpress.com/2016/08/19/flashback-to-austin

26 Months in DC. August 19, 2016. Two years ago we were in Austin Texas for the first time. I’d never been to Texas and had little idea what to expect. My imaginings mainly centred around desert, ten-gallon cowboy hats, guns and other things that can kill you. Keeping Austin Weird: experiences. One of my favourite of Austin’s weird bars was on Brazos Street. Located on the ground floor of a hostel and reached through a secret door disguised as a bookcase, is a really great cocktail bar. I&#...Everywhere ...

American habits to give up when moving to the UK | 26 Months in DC

https://18monthsindc.wordpress.com/2016/02/23/american-habits-to-give-up-when-moving-to-the-uk

26 Months in DC. American habits to give up when moving to the UK. February 23, 2016. Last year Matt Herschberger identified 7 American habits he lost after moving to England – and it’s all so true! His original article is a lot of fun and I encourage you to read it: http:/ matadornetwork.com/life/7-american-habits-lost-moving-england/. But it got me thinking about these differences between America and the UK again, especially how I’d experienced them in reverse. So here’s my take on them:. Another one I...

In March of last year, the group pledged its’ allegiance to ISIS, another Islamic extremist organization. The AFV M*A*S*H

Monday, August 17, 2009. I actually built and nearly completed a model this month - shocking to all involved. This is the new DML 105mm Howitzer M2A1. This is a very detailed kit - very strong detail, crisp molding with good definition. I do recommend the kit with the forewarning that is it quite fragile and requires s good amount of skill to assemble correctly. Metal barrel not true 90deg - needed some easy filing to sit flush. Wheels, always wary of wheels to make sure they are straight in all axises.
