The Artist Within Us

Holiday Season’s Greetings. I know I have not been around all year, but then I also have not been painting. Instead, I became fascinated with mobile photography after my son, Armont gave me an iPhone 4S for Christmas last year. Though I always had an iPhone, I never thought of using it for photography but once I did, I quickly secured a dot com and started building a website, The iPhone Arts. Dedicated to mobile photography and the iPhone. Posted from my heart to you. By The Artist Within Us. I am not su...

The Artist Within Us: Something new and different

http://theartistwithinus.blogspot.com/2012/03/something-new-and-different.html

Something new and different. As an artist we are always searching for way to reinterpret our visions and as I have always been in love with textures, I too have been searching for ways to interpret and apply the texture I discover in the form of a painting. So while gardening, trimming a tree and cutting all the branches down to fit in the fireplace, I looked at the pile of wood on the ground, my imagination began to run wild. Holz vor den Schuppen. Enough wood in front of the shed), 8 x 8 inches. Ive be...

The Artist Within Us: LA-MAF is where I will be

http://theartistwithinus.blogspot.com/2012/08/la-maf-is-where-i-will-be.html

LA-MAF is where I will be. For a couple weeks now, I have been postponing the decision to attend the LA Mobile Arts Festival 2012 (August 18-25) and as you read this, I am on the road driving to Southern California. Over the next several days I will be covering the exhibit and some of the events, along with meeting with several iPhoneographers I have been exchanging correspondence with or have featured on the Weekly Showcase. One of the pre-events I will participate in, is the Venice Beach Photo-walk.

The Artist Within Us: Artist Statement

http://theartistwithinus.blogspot.com/p/artist-statement.html

From an early age, I have been fascinated by industrial sites, especially abandoned buildings and the lure these empty, lonely and haunting structures held. Though sad, there I found solitude and in the decades we have become close friends, slowly revealing secrets that lay hidden within each of us. 8217; and ‘ nationality. 8217; and my own relationship to them. During this time the dichotomy between photography and painting collimated in 2009, in the creation of the term ‘ Abstract Realism. I feel fortu...

The Artist Within Us: Family Secrets

http://theartistwithinus.blogspot.com/2011/08/family-secrets.html

Memories are the ghosts of our past,. Like fugitives they hide from the day,. Only to haunt us at night. When the mind betrays our reality,. Altering the history as we have come to know it. It is we who choose what to remember and what to forget. Separating pain from the pleasurable,. Gathering the hurt like the fields harvest. And carefully add them to the box, then close the lid. Yet the pain does not lessen with time,. Not until one has learned to forgive. For the scars have been carved too deep.

8212; Stories, events and life in general from Miss Kitty's point of view. With the holidays behind us, work began by removing the trees ornaments, packing the lights and then cutting the tree, adding the pieces into the green recycle container. There is still more work ahead, at least a full days worth and in the meantime Ms K is was relaxing the couch, watching with eyes half open, the progress that was being made. 8212; Stories, events and life in general from Miss Kitty's point of view. A long way back. For some weeks now I have been wanting to post, even starting to write one back in May, only not to finish and so fail. With each passing day I became more guilty and tonight Ms K and I, each agreed that enough is enough. Even though I have been very busy and productive, first news about Ms K, then about my long way back. Ms K napping on the living room couch as the last of the days sunlight. I guess when one is o...

The iPhone Arts: First Friday of the Month - Brussels HipstaPak Revisited

http://www.theiphonearts.com/2015/04/first-friday-of-month-brussels.html

First Friday of the Month - Brussels HipstaPak Revisited. Earlier this month I reviewed the HipstaPak Brussels. And despite my few reservations, I had recommended the lens and film combo. I still stand firm on my review, so why am I revisiting this HipstaPak? Just because I have reviewed an item, it does not mean I do not continue to test and try an item after publishing my findings and so it was with the Brussels combo. When I have the opportunity to return to the original location, I can only hope that...

The iPhone Arts: Knowing When to Continue and When to Stop

http://www.theiphonearts.com/2015/07/knowing-when-to-continue-and-when-to.html

Knowing When to Continue and When to Stop. When it comes to abstract painting, there is always a challenge for the artist to know when a painting is finished or it still needs additional work. Such is the case with the painting I spoke of in my last post. And now titled “Bruised Chaos.” After seeing the painting throughout the day and especially studying the numerous close-up images, I realized it still was not finished. 8212; Right: Completed Painting. Mixed Medium, 36x36 inches. Saturday, July 04, 2015.

The iPhone Arts: When Photographs Seek Alternative Mediums

http://www.theiphonearts.com/2015/05/when-photographs-seek-alternative.html

When Photographs Seek Alternative Mediums. After mobile photography having played a major roll in my creativity at the cost of other creative interests, the pendulum having reached its zenith, it has slowly begun a descend into the opposite direction. So when Fletcher called me a little over one week ago, asked if I would join him on a trip to Mare Island, Vallejo for a few hours, revisiting the pier we were at a couple of months ago, I said yes and the next day we were on route. But now my photography i...

She agreed with the filmmaker, the answer was simple, that's not to say the project lacked complexity, but the idea behind it was simple. It was about her, you, everyone.
