theBioBucket*: December 2014

http://thebiobucket.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

R and GIS Links. QspatiaLite Quicktip: Convert MULTILINESTRING to LINESTRING. One often encounters the problem, that after digitizing or running processing algorithms, the output geometry is MULTILINESTRING, but we rather wished to have the geometrytype LINESTRING. Until know I used a quite cumbersome, multistep workflow for conversion between these geometry-types - however, as we will see, all of this becomes ridicously easy with spatial SQL:. LINESTRING(-1 -1, 0 0, 1 1, 4 4). You'd end up with:. Qspati...

R and GIS Links. Use Case: Spatial R and Google Earth for Terrain Analyses. I'd like to share code that uses spatial R and Google Earth for terrain analyses. In this example I took SRTM data at 1" resolution from http:/ www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/dem3.html#alps. Read it into R did a little processing and finally wrapped it up in a KML-file that I use as ground-overlay in Google Earth. In fact I eventually converted it into a sqlitedb with MAPC2MAPC. For usage on a mobile device.

R and GIS Links. Custom Google Hybrid Mapsource for MOBAC and GALILEO. For anyone having trouble with the shipped Google Hybrid mapsource, as I encountered them - here is a custom mapsource which worked for me. Save this as XML (under Win7) to. Http:/ mt{$serverpart}.google.com/vt/lyrs=y&x={$x}&y={$y}&z={$z}. And for any Galileo user interested, I also add a custom mapsource:. Http:/ mt{$serverpart}.google.com/vt/lyrs=y&x={$x}&y={$y}&z={$z}. 7 May 2015 at 09:58. 1 June 2015 at 18:50. 1 June 2015 at 19:28.

http://thebiobucket.blogspot.com/2015/04/qspatialite-use-case-find-number-of.html

R and GIS Links. QspatiaLite Use Case: Find Number of Species from Point Data. Here's a short follow up on some previous posting about the use of QspatiaLite for the aggregation of species distribution data. In this case the species data comes as a point layer. For each cell of a 1000 x 1000 m grid (1) the number of individuals per species, (2) the total number of individuals and (3) the number of different species should be calculated. The query table in the screenshot is the result for (3). Select t&#4...

R and GIS Links. R GIS: Function to Reverse KML Paths. This is a function I wrote up for reversing KML-paths. The paths within a KML can be partially matched by their name-tags. Name: ReverseKmlPath # use: Reverse KML-pathsby matching their Name tags # arguments: PATH TO DOC, the path to the KML-file # NAME, the value of the name tag, function uses partial matching! Trail xyz' will be matched by 'rail' # requirements: KML-structure with Placemarks containing a. R GIS: Generalizer for KML Paths. This work...

Being thoughts and incidents of a (mostly) botanical nature. Tuesday, 12 February 2013. Creating masked vice-county rasters in Quantum GIS. I was inspired by Teresa Frost. There are no doubt easier ways of achieving what follows, but this is what worked for me. Firstly, I retrieved the Land-Form PANORAMA. Data from the Ordnance Survey's new(ish) OpenData. Website, and the Watsonian vice-county boundaries from the NBN. Was handy for that. 2) Visualising the DTM data is also a minor challenge, and can be o...
