What a season that was? | The Bottom Three

https://thebottomthree.wordpress.com/2012/05/26/what-a-season-that-was

Football from my perspective. May 26, 2012. What a season that was? A different outlook towards European transfers from 2011-12 season. Never before football world has seen so much of money being spent on the players transfers. Not only cumulative expenditure by European clubs on sheer acquiring players was astonishing, the sheer volume of player movement was higher than before. Success at any COST has become mantra in football as even Dutch sides, usually famous for exporting their talent have signed in...

Of The Stars | The Bottom Three

https://thebottomthree.wordpress.com/2012/03/13/of-the-stars

Football from my perspective. March 13, 2012. We all love football. We have our favorite teams and we buy their jerseys to show the support. We value those jerseys (due to the sentiments associated with the clubs and maybe due to the incredible high cost we have to pay for them). We also buy the jerseys of our national teams (and sometimes jerseys of other national teams too). We worship our stars on the pitch and we buy the jerseys having their name on the back. But what about the front? As per the FIFA...

Molde Magician | The Bottom Three

https://thebottomthree.wordpress.com/2012/05/14/molde-magician

Football from my perspective. May 14, 2012. The jury is still out on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. And Solskjaer has won it. Clive Tyldesley immortalized these words on that fateful night of 26. May 1999 in Barcelona, after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had just scored a dramatic injury time goal in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich. But the crucial chances always fall to the man who’s best prepared to take them. Shortly after signing a fairly unknown forward from a Norwegian club Molde FK for 1.5m in ...

Football from my perspective. Cursed Miracle in the City of Romeo and Juliet. May 9, 2012. A look at Hellas Verona’s miraculous maiden and only Scudetto season and woes. Ever since William Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet somewhere between 1591 and 1595, City of Verona was put on the world map. Yearly thousands of tourists and lovers visited Via Cappello 23 which is supposedly known as Juliet’s house and her famous balcony. Italian football needed something special in that season of 1984-85. This seaso...

Objective Barcelona: How to beat the most powerful team in the world. BOOK REVIEW | The Bottom Three

https://thebottomthree.wordpress.com/2012/06/07/objective-barcelona

Football from my perspective. June 7, 2012. Objective Barcelona: How to beat the most powerful team in the world. BOOK REVIEW. After a massive disappointing season, I’ve taken a break from writing till Euro 12 commences. But I’ve been reading quite a bit of football related stuff these days. Rather than how Real Madrid and Chelsea won La Liga and Champions League, last season will be remembered for how Barcelona blew it up despite having so much talent at their disposal. By Bruno Miguel Espalha. Incredib...

Frankly Mr Spencer: March 2014

http://franklymrspencer.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 30 March 2014. Five Favourite Wins Against - Tottenham at Anfield. Continuing the series where I look back at my five favourite wins the Liverpool’s next opponents. This weekend Liverpool play against Tottenham at Anfield. Here are my five favourite wins from past encounters, with some of them packed full of goals. Clemence; Neal, Thompson, Hughes (Johnson), A.Kennedy; Case, McDermott, Souness, R.Kennedy; Dalglish, Heighway. Today they were to go more than one better. Kenny Dalglish, who’d ...

Frankly Mr Spencer: May 2014

http://franklymrspencer.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Friday, 30 May 2014. World Cup Stories - Ramon Quiroga 1978. Many South American goalkeepers have earned the nickname ‘El Loco’, as in madman, but Peruvian goalie, Ramon Quiroga, certainly worked hard to make it his own. The 1978 tournament in Argentina was into its Second Phase, another round of group matches. Peru and Poland met in Mendoza having both lost their opening games in Group B. Szarmach had put the Poles in front midway through the second half Peru continued to push forward. To great howls of...

Frankly Mr Spencer: March 2015

http://franklymrspencer.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Friday, 20 March 2015. Graeme Souness - What Might Have Been. I was drawn to this point based on a couple of comments I’d read recently about Souness. These comments surrounded the question of what might have happened to Tottenham had they not sold Souness to Middlesbrough in1973. My view is that Tottenham wouldn’t have been able to turn Souness into the player he later became. This article attempts to show why. In those Finals he scored in the first and fourth games but was sent off in the third. He did...

Frankly Mr Spencer: The Original Psycho

http://franklymrspencer.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-original-psycho.html

Saturday, 9 May 2015. Long before Stuart Pearce came to prominence or before anyone had the curious idea Vinny Jones could be a professional footballer, a young man born in Streatham earned the nickname – “Psycho”. By the time he was aged twenty-six he’d been sent-off ten times. In a career which spanned twelve years, he received his marching orders twelve times, although he recently defended this record claiming “only ten of those were straight reds”. Mark Earl Dennis was born on 2. May 1961 in Streatham.

Frankly Mr Spencer: December 2014

http://franklymrspencer.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, 28 December 2014. A Moment in Time - 1985-86, West Ham's Best Ever League Season. Since upsetting the odds when they won the 1980 FA Cup, West Ham had enjoyed the decade so far. They were a Second Division side when Trevor Brooking’s header beat Arsenal at Wembley. A year later they won the Division by 13pts, and took Liverpool to a replay in the League Cup (then the Milk Cup). Their League placings to this season had been 9. The squad still contained five players from the 1980 success. Remained ...

Frankly Mr Spencer: April 2015

http://franklymrspencer.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, 9 April 2015. A Moment in Time - Liverpool vs Aston Villa - FA Cup Semi-Final 1996. Now Liverpool has beaten Blackburn Rovers in their FA Cup Sixth Round replay, they face the prospect of a Semi-Final clash with Aston Villa. For me, this brings back memories of our last meeting in the competition in 1996. In a rather convenient twist of coincidence, today happens to be Robbie Fowler's birthday, so it's fitting he is remembered here. They were two of the top sides in the country at the time.

Frankly Mr Spencer: February 2014

http://franklymrspencer.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Friday, 14 February 2014. FA Cup Replay Marathon. It was the longest FA Cup Semi-Final tie in history, lasting for an incredible four matches. The season is 1979-1980 and Arsenal were the defending Cup holders having beaten Manchester United in an exciting Final the year before. There was the prospect of the first ever all-Merseyside Final as both Liverpool and Everton had made it this far, and were drawn apart too. In the other Semi, Everton would meet West Ham, then a Second Division side. Back in thos...

Frankly Mr Spencer: Screen Sport Super Cup 1985-86

http://franklymrspencer.blogspot.com/2015/05/screen-sport-super-cup-1985-86.html

Wednesday, 13 May 2015. Screen Sport Super Cup 1985-86. After the Heysel Stadium disaster English clubs were banned from competing in European competitions indefinitely from season 1985-86. The financial implications for the six clubs who had earned qualification from the previous season were potentially disastrous. English football was going through a difficult time with reduced attendances and more coverage on the front pages than the authorities would prefer. The intention was to hold the competition ...

Frankly Mr Spencer: January 2015

http://franklymrspencer.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, 10 January 2015. The announcement many of us knew would come someday, but few of us were looking forward to, has now come. At the end of the season Steven Gerrard will leave Liverpool. I watched his debut, I seem to have watched every game. Right from the start you knew he had something about him, and when he emerged he was one of a number of young players we were desperate to become the next big thing. One thing which stood out to me early on was his speed across the ground and his stamina.

The Bottomsup Blog Singapore. The Art Of Being 9. But let me get back to the purpose of this post, which is to recap Layla’s party. Compared to the fanfare of Layla’s rock ‘n’ roll 8 bash. Her 9th was a much quieter affair. Earlier in the year, I’d thought an India-themed party would be interesting and different, and later I considered merging it with a mystery theme and having the kids guess what Indian desserts were on the table. I even prepared mystery gifts. Was the cake recipe he used, and this.

The Bottom Three | Football from my perspective.

Football from my perspective. Dilemma of a Fantasy Football Manager. August 4, 2012. You are a kid with sweet tooth who has been let go wild in a chocolate factory. You have enormous choices in front of you. You can pick as many permutations and combinations as you like. But you can’t pick all of them. Every chocolate has certain value and you can pick only 15 chocolates whose combined value can’t go more than 100. It is confusing but pretty decent scenario for a kid and he wont be flustered much.
