Reculver and east Kent wildlife: Difficult darters
http://reculverandeastkentwildlife.blogspot.com/2013/07/difficult-darters.html
Reculver and east Kent wildlife. Sunday, 7 July 2013. Immature Common Darter (pale colouring along the legs, short moustache that doesn't droop on the frons). There were loads of Black-tailed Skimmers, Emperors and a Four-spotted Chaser which is a rather uncommon dragonfly around Reculver. We came across a single teneral male Emerald Damselfly being blown about by the strong wind, making photography aukward. To finish the day off I had a look along Marshside and found quite a few Azure Damselflies. Few n...

Reculver and east Kent wildlife. Sunday, 25 March 2012. A week in early spring. After 3 hours birding on a lovely bright morning I had seen a large number of waders, including a flock of 52 Bar-tailed Godwits, quite a good count for the area. A Fulmar flew west, and the 4 Eider were sitting offshore. A steady passage of around 75 Meadow Pipits and 5 Rock Pipits flew west, and around 35 'alba' Wagtails also trickled past west. Tuesday, 13 March 2012. A walk in the woods. Tuesday 13th March 2012. A bright ...

Reculver and east Kent wildlife. Sunday, 29 July 2012. Saturday 28th July 2012. Warm, overcast and s/w breeze. Another wander back to see the Willow Emeralds revealed quite a few within range of the enthusiastic photographers gathered around the hedge, and then it was off home for me. Saturday, 28 July 2012. Thursday, 26 July 2012. Tuesday 24th July 2012. Very hot 30C, calm, dry and sunny. I sat in the sun watching them for a while, to the backdrop of Yellowhammers singing and calling, and young Green Wo...

Reculver and east Kent wildlife: April 2012
http://reculverandeastkentwildlife.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Reculver and east Kent wildlife. Monday, 30 April 2012. At Shuart. I ran all the way to the car and got to Shuart as quick as possible, and set off up the track to the railway line. Taking time to look in the clearings along the hedge, I suddenly noticed the oriole flying distantly across some fields. I finished the day with a short visit to Chambers Wall, where the highlight was a sighting of a Stoat at close range. Of course, as I lifted the camera it disappeared into the hedge. Friday, 27 April 2012.

Reculver and east Kent wildlife: Chalkhill butterflies
http://reculverandeastkentwildlife.blogspot.com/2013/08/chalkhill-butterflies.html
Reculver and east Kent wildlife. Thursday, 29 August 2013. I met Dave Mairs on the walk, and while chatting we found at least 3 Spotted and 1 Pied Flycatcher. We walked on to the area where I usually see Adonis Blues, and although it was really quite windy we were in luck and found a few of these lovely bright blue butterflies. I also saw briefly a single Silver-spotted Skipper, plus several Wall Browns. A really nice relaxing day out. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. With gl...

Reculver and east Kent wildlife. Monday, 22 July 2013. A trip to Thursley Common. Meanwhile Patrick was attempting to i.d an emerald that we presumed was Downy but just wouldn't fly slow enough for any of us to get a proper look at it, and Marc and me were enjoying the Small Red Damselflies:. Sunday, 14 July 2013. Norfolk Hawkers at Westbere. Other dragonflies seen on my walk were 2 Brown Hawkers, an Emperor, I'm pretty sure there was a Hairy Dragonfly go past while I was watching the Norfolk Hawkers, se...

Reculver and east Kent wildlife. Sunday, 8 January 2012. Sunday 8th January 2012. Westerly breeze F3-4 easing off, dry, overcast and mild. Monday, 2 January 2012. The start of a new year. Breezy, cool westerly winds, bright sunshine. I drove inland and found somewhere of my own for a while. Quietly I crept up to where 2 Bewick's Swans have been seen, and trying not to disturb the birds I pointed my lens through some hawthorns and took a few photos. A summary of December 2011. Rather nice to see were 2 ri...

Reculver and east Kent wildlife: September 2011
http://reculverandeastkentwildlife.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Reculver and east Kent wildlife. Sunday, 25 September 2011. A more promising morning. Sunday 25th September 2011 7.45 - 10.30am. Light southerly breeze, cool, dry and overcast. I caught sight of a flash of an orange tail, a Redstart disappearing into a bush. I waited a while but couldnt see it again. I walked west up the embankment with Marc Heath, noting more Chiffchaffs and a Blackcap, plus a lot of Blue Tits. I heard a few flocks of Siskins fly west as i continued back to Chambers Wall, counting 21 in...
