TheBushcraftGuy

Sunday, 21 June 2015. Well, that was interesting. A man outstanding in his field. I have to admit to being rather pleased with the overall effect. Already the inner sanctum of the stones was crammed with people. Prize idiot number one. The chorus of disapproval from the assembled onlookers and the arrival of several burly security men made them change their minds and they dismounted moments before the sun broke over the horizon. Many folks managed to, despite the efforts of Wiltshire constabulary. The la...

TheBushcraftGuy: Coppice a load of that

http://thebushcraftguy.blogspot.com/2013/02/coppice-load-of-that.html

Wednesday, 20 February 2013. Coppice a load of that. Picture the scene. 15 fresh faced volunteers, a pile of loppers and bow saws, several flint and bronze axes and a woodland full of overgrown hazel coppice. The group had assembled as part of the English Heritage Stonehenge Neolithic House project ( Neolithic houses blog page. Well, the group set off like they were possessed! Never has hazel coppice been removed so quickly or in such quantity! Hazel Coppice - Day 1. Rods and poles ready for use.

TheBushcraftGuy: January 2013

http://thebushcraftguy.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, 24 January 2013. Today was a glorious winter's day. It was cold and crisp, there was snow on the ground and the sun shone. Like I said, glorious. I was fortunate enough to be out in the woods today and found a new addition to my foraging palate. This was the scarlet elf cup fungus (. And at this time of the year they look like small jewels, with their very disctinctive colouration and shape. Sunday, 20 January 2013. Are appearing in flower and the first shoots of the bluebells (. Foraging for m...

TheBushcraftGuy: London Buses

http://thebushcraftguy.blogspot.com/2013/03/london-buses.html

Thursday, 14 March 2013. Roundhouses are like London buses it seems. Nothing for ages and then a whole load come along all at once. First of all, the Ancient Technology Centre. Have been rebuilding the Iron age roundhouse at their headquarters at Cranborne, Dorset. Using authentic methods of construction and locally harvested materials it really is an impressive looking building. It is nearing completion and looking darned smart if I say so myself! Piles of hazel for the project. Answer: None) is the rou...

TheBushcraftGuy: One thing leads to another.....

http://thebushcraftguy.blogspot.com/2013/02/one-thing-leads-to-another.html

Wednesday, 13 February 2013. One thing leads to another. After a recent foray into the woods coppicing hazel rods to be used in the fabrication of a neolithic roundhouse, I was fortunate enough to pick up a few really nice lumps of field maple. A quick burst of heat from a portable flame gun softens the glue sufficiently for it to become sticky again. The softened glue was then forced into the hole in the bowl, left to harden and then given a quick sanding over to remove any excess. Job done!
