Friday, April 3, 2015. The Living Reality of the Cross. I did not intend to take a break from blogging during Lent, but that is what ended up happening. After Easter, I will be spending more time at Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton, where I am being trained to become a spiritual director. After that, hopefully I will be able to resume blogging on at least a semi-regular basis. February 18, 2015 · 4:41 pm. Ashes to Go, Blessings on the Way. For the first time today I participated in Ashes to Go. I joined other people from St. David’s in Austin at the corner of 6th and Congress in front of the Starbucks for 90 minute shift. I would guess that in the time we were there we imposed ashes on about 60 people. Maybe more. Several things struck me during my time there. What if we offered a blessing of the baptismal waters from the Easter Vigil? 7 responses to “. Fr Steve De Muth. Febru...

Ashes to Go, Blessings on the Way. April 2, 2015 · 6:11 pm. April 2, 2015. Seminary of the Southwest. You don’t see Jesus get up and took off his robe. You are too busy trying to make sense of the table set before you. But there is no Passover meal set out on the table. There is no lamb — just some bread and other simple food. It is only after a few minutes that you look around. You notice Jesus is not with you. You turn your head from where you are reclining along the banquet table. And you see Judas tu...

Grace and Hope | All Things Necessary

Broken Bread and Impossible Hope. Ashes to Go, Blessings on the Way →. September 18, 2014 · 5:07 pm. Thursday of Proper 19. Christ Chapel, Seminary of the Southwest. These readings remind me of two big Christian ideas — grace and hope. Like with all big ideas contained in a few letters, it can be hard to wrap our minds around all that these small words convey. But I think our readings from Luke and I Corinthians help us better understand them. First, let’s turn to grace. In a word, God’s grace, God’s fav...

As an Episcopal priest, my preaching and God's ministry through me focus on the imperative of being authentic or. "real." I pray my writing reflects how "real" I am becoming through God's love, the joy I take in providing love to a hurting and broken world, and the degree to which I love Jesus Christ and the Episcopal Church. Enjoy! Tuesday, 6 March 2012. Originally printed as an ecumenical column for The News Herald of Franklin, PA). Main character is a man named. Garden and watching television. Poor.

The Benedictine Lutheran: Direction in a Directionally-Challenged World
http://benedictinelutheran.blogspot.com/2015/01/direction-in-directionally-challenged.html
Friday, January 30, 2015. Direction in a Directionally-Challenged World. However, there will still inevitably be times when we feel God's absence more than God's presence. In those times, we can pray, and a prayer like this one is particularly appropriate when we are feeling a little (or a lot) directionally challenged in our life:. March 26, 2015 at 8:32 PM. The Benedictine Lutheran: Santa Lucia
http://benedictinelutheran.blogspot.com/2014/12/santa-lucia.html
Saturday, December 13, 2014. According to the tradition, Lucia (whose name means "light") was martyred in Sicily around 310 A.D., during one of the last major periods of Christian persecution before Constantine became emperor and legalized Christianity a few years later. Several centuries later, when Christianity spread to Northern Europe, her story and name took on special meaning there, because she represents light during the darkest time of year, around the winter solstice.
