Exploring the World in 'Blue Velvet of Sark': July 2015
http://blue-velvet-exploring-the-world.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Where have we been? Where are we now? Friday, 31 July 2015. The northern end of the Evia Channel. We sailed past the northern entrance to the Evia Channel and on towards Stil. S sounds like quite an industrial town and port which didn’t particulalry appeal for a night stop. However, 5 miles to the east of Stil. S is a bay which seemed to offer good shelter from the easterly wind and which looked to fit the bill for the night. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 5 Weeks in Brittany. Ak Kastri and Órmos Peristéri.

Aleria's Adventures: Famous Women Sailors
https://aleriasadventures.blogspot.com/p/famous-women-sailors.html
Where are all the role models? I have always been confounded when I came across references to women I'd never heard of who achieved amazing feats in small boats on the world's oceans. Why had I never heard of them? Why weren't they role models? I knew of all the male sailors and circumnavigators - Slocum, Chichester, Moitessier, Knox-Johnston and so on. I knew their stories in detail. Why had I never heard of Ann Davison, Krystyna Chojnowska-Liskiewicz and Naomi James? 2 Ann Chamberlyne (1667-1691).

Aleria's Adventures: June 2015
https://aleriasadventures.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 29, 2015. The meaning of home. Where the mountains come down to the sea along the Wild Atlantic Way. Home is a question Ive been contemplating my entire life. So on this day, my birthday, I will begin to try to answer that question. I published a post recently. About having found home along the wild Atlantic way in Ireland. Today, I want to explore the meaning of home and ask a new question: how did I know it when I found it? Is home the landscape that burns itself into your psyche? Its been...

Aleria's Adventures: The weather in the West of Ireland was filthy, but we couldn’t not sail!
https://aleriasadventures.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-weather-in-west-of-ireland-was.html
Wednesday, July 15, 2015. The weather in the West of Ireland was filthy, but we couldn’t not sail! Is there anything out there but miserable weather? Summer Sailstice, a global celebration of sailing on the longest day of the year. A sliver of blue sky was hopeful. We sailed out of our inlet in Clew Bay at half tide. That’s when we can make it over the shellfish bed that runs across the entrance. We had about a foot of water beneath our keel at the shallowest. Clare Island in the sun. By the time we drop...

Exploring the World in 'Blue Velvet of Sark': September 2014
http://blue-velvet-exploring-the-world.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Where have we been? Where are we now? Tuesday, 30 September 2014. The marina at Kemer is well-appointed and provides good shelter from weather from all directions but the town did little for us, being a purpose-built concrete tourist resort that, for us, seemed to miss out on character. Kemer’s main street. Whilst I was curled up in the anchor locker, Nicky set to work to scrub the anchor chain, both to clean it and to try to remove the worst of the inevitable corrosion on the galvanising.
