https://thecommoncritic.wordpress.com/2010/12/19/til-next-year
A guide to Auckland theatre, from the cheap seats. 8216;Til next year…. December 19, 2010. We’ll be taking a little break over Christmas and New Year’s, but will back in 2011. Thanks to everyone who’s stopped by, to those who have subscribed (we’ll try and do our best to keep you), and especially to those who left their thoughts on our posts. Safe and happy holidays. xxx. I should attribute that photo to James D. Kelly. Who I found via somuchtotellyou.co.nz. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
The Idea of America | The Common Critic
https://thecommoncritic.wordpress.com/2010/11/10/the-idea-of-america
A guide to Auckland theatre, from the cheap seats. The Idea of America. November 10, 2010. What: The Idea of America. Cast: Michele Hine, Isla Adamson, Chelsie Preston-Crayford, Andrew Ford, Joel Herbert, Harry McNaughton. But for a play dealing with adult themes and heavy subject matter, a thread of well-timed humour keeps the emotion from spilling into melodrama. But judging from some audience reactions, it may be wise to bring a shoulder to cry on – just in case. The Idea of America. Of her children, ...
Toys | The Common Critic
https://thecommoncritic.wordpress.com/2010/12/05/toys
A guide to Auckland theatre, from the cheap seats. December 5, 2010 10 Comments. When: 2 – 18 December. Writers: Natalie Medlock, Dan Musgrove. Directors: Cameron Rhodes and Toby Leach. Some of his toys are very, very naughty indeed, says the neurotic View-Master, as he shuffles through slides of animals, historic figures and a scantily clad Kevin Bacon. In between contortions, there is a sense that anything could happen – an appropriate instinct, as an audience member is soon confronted with his c...
Silent Night | The Common Critic
https://thecommoncritic.wordpress.com/2010/12/14/silent-night
A guide to Auckland theatre, from the cheap seats. December 14, 2010. Where: Musgrove Studio, The Maidment Theatre. When: 13 – 8 December. The term “one-person play” can fill a mere non-thespian mortal with dread. Substitute the word “woman” for “person”, if we’re allowed to be sexist, and you’ll really get people’s knickers in a twist. Add the word Christmas” to the mix and those tickets could get fairly difficult to shift. I’m having difficulty imagining who to recommend this show to. Not peo...You are...
About | The Common Critic
https://thecommoncritic.wordpress.com/about
A guide to Auckland theatre, from the cheap seats. Theatre can be electric and exciting – never more than when somebody forgets their lines. But too many critics – with their long-winded analyses of contexts, motifs and underlying themes – aim to tell you what to think, rather than what to see. We’ll cut straight to the chase. Is the production worth my cash? Will I get to see nudity? Will my date think I’m suave, or a pretentious bore? Will I need a qualification in English literature to decipher it?

I AM OFFENDED BECAUSE...: I Went to See a Play on Saturday Night
http://iamoffendedbecause.blogspot.com/2011/01/i-went-to-see-play-on-saturday-night.html
Tuesday, January 18, 2011. I Went to See a Play on Saturday Night. I went to see a play on Saturday night. This is nothing new, of course, because I am YOUNG and FRESH and FREE and CREATIVE. I like to spend my time in the capital city sitting in cafes drinking soy milk and going to artistic events and immersing myself in CULTURE. The play was called No Taste Forever. It was written by Paul Rothwell and it was performed at BATS Theatre. And I had major problems with it. I am now going to write about it.

The Common Creative
Friday, January 30, 2015. January is always a funny month. Working in coffee, I see the classic New Years' patterns. Pastries are avoided for the first week after the New Year is rung in, sugar is cut back, people switch from large lattes to black coffee. it's a little predictable. I like to be a little unpredictable. Making decadent chocolate cake in January is how I start new habits! My husband got me a wonderful cookbook for Christmas: Flourless by Nicole Spiridakas. Saturday, December 13, 2014. Ah th...

The Common Critic | A guide to Auckland theatre, from the cheap seats
A guide to Auckland theatre, from the cheap seats. I Won’t Be Happy Until I Lose One of My Limbs. February 8, 2011. When: 2 – 19 February. Cast: Nisha Madhan, Gareth Reeves (and later Jeremy Randerson). Feel the shame of being cast as one of the P-head layabouts that are apparently a permanent fixture in her house. The show may not be what you’d expect (whatever you’d expect from a play with such a provocative title) but you’ll be glad you took a chance. I Won’t Be Happy Until I Lose a Limb. It’s a...

The Common Cup | Loving God. Loving People. Or At Least Trying My Best.
Loving God. Loving People. Or At Least Trying My Best. September 5, 2010 / TheCommonCup. Immanuel’s Veins by Ted Dekker – A Book Review. I’ve followed Ted Dekker. 8216;s writing since The Circle Series first began with. Set in a medieval setting. Gives a much different feel than Dekker’s fans may be used to. As always his writing immerses you in the story. This story surrounds an epic battle between love and lust, between true sacrificial love and pleasures of flesh. The battle rages ov...My only concern...
