Monday, November 9, 2009. In January of 2008 The Miami Laker, a local newspaper covering a small community just outside of Miami, discontinued its coverage of local politics. A group of 20 people from the Miami Lakes Civic Association protested outside The Miami Laker office. Elena Gonzalez, a local resident, said she felt that the decision of the newspaper deprived her and other residents from getting the information they rely on as a community. Monday, September 28, 2009. Newspaper companies have been debating for some time now as to whether or not they should charge for their content online. Recently the Salt Lake Tribune made an announcement that starting next year they'll be making the switch. Dan Singleton, Salt Lake Tribune publisher, said that if newspaper companies give it away for free then it has no value. He also said he believes that most newspaper companies will do the same very soon. So do you believe it? Will papers follow suite?

Wednesday, November 18, 2009. Can Blogs Fill In the Gap? In 2004 blogs saw a 58% increase in readership. A blog focusing on local events, news and discussion on Roosevelt Island, reported 250,000 yearly readers in 2007 . A small online news blog, reported 20,000 yearly readers in 2007. However newspapers have been seeing a steady decline in readership for nearly two decades. In 2009 newspaper readership dropped 10%. Which averages 2 million readers nation-wide, saw a 17.1% decrease in readers in 2009.
