Nomadic Adventurists: Inklings and Impressions
http://nomadicadventurists.blogspot.com/2010/01/inklings-and-impressions.html
A slew of enlightening adventures by Barbara Wilson, MD and Bill Hood. Friday, January 22, 2010. Just had a long happy day in Long Beach California helping to show off the new Ultrasol Inks. New to this far North, of course, The inks have a long history in Mexico and other areas of Latin America. Our booth is small – barely room to print a pellon, avoid bumping hips with the other hosts of the ink offering area, and escape getting a hot kiss from the flash unit. This Week I Learned. The Show Not Seen.

Nomadic Adventurists: Power Elite Solutions
http://nomadicadventurists.blogspot.com/2010/02/power-elite-solutions.html
A slew of enlightening adventures by Barbara Wilson, MD and Bill Hood. Saturday, February 20, 2010. 8220;Where was I? Normally I don’t bother to write anything when people like David Brooks write excellently researched and eloquently presented articles such as his latest in The New York Times labeled “The Power Elite.”. There is a comment that the new style of elite promotion has created “social chasms.” The example is that people who used to run a bank had “similar lifestyle habits...The secretarial wor...

Nomadic Adventurists: January 2010
http://nomadicadventurists.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
A slew of enlightening adventures by Barbara Wilson, MD and Bill Hood. Wednesday, January 27, 2010. This is a photo of a sign taken on the drive from Long Beach California to Austin Texas. It reads “Zero Visibility Possible.”. At that time, as I drove, I thought that the road and the land ahead was very visible. At least in a concrete “how far of a distance can I see” manner. So this sign makes me seek hidden meaning. But could there be more of an existential flavor to the message. Or perhaps it is as si...

The Upstairs Neighbor: January 2009
http://theupstairsneighbor.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 4, 2009. And The Kichen Sink. Moving is an extended brainstorming session. We’ve boxes piled everywhere. We move them around, from room to room, piecing and prioritizing our working world. Occasionally we free from cardboard confines the odd and emergently necessary artifact required for immediate use. Poetry and flesh in the fused silica sand existent in a solidified slab of liquid that we call glass and often look beyond. Glass to showcase the spirit and expose the soul to the eye b...

The Upstairs Neighbor: Philosophy in The Land of a Lack of Work
http://theupstairsneighbor.blogspot.com/2010/02/philosophy-in-land-of-lack-of-work.html
Sunday, February 21, 2010. Philosophy in The Land of a Lack of Work. 8220;Any job is a good job.”. This was the statement made by a woman no longer receiving an unemployment check. She is still living in her home, propped up by a spouse’s disability check, and receiving groceries from a local religious organization. She notes they cannot afford to move because this would require “first and last month’s rent, and to open utility accounts.”. I’m intrigued by the choices of “any job” that ...That would be 7...

The Upstairs Neighbor: Computer User Amnesty
http://theupstairsneighbor.blogspot.com/2010/02/computer-user-amnesty.html
Monday, February 22, 2010. Learning Spanish is a treat for a distracted mind. The word “costumbres” must surely mean costumes. And yet it instead means “customs or habits.”. Yet what are our customs if not simply the costumes and clothing of our habitual natures? I select my clothing based in sequence:. 1 What fits and is clean in my closet. 2 What seems to feel good. And. 3 What seems to be appropriate to the places I’m planning to visit. Because we have no traditions, no costumes and clothing habitual ...

The Upstairs Neighbor: January 2010
http://theupstairsneighbor.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 22, 2010. Lack of Happy Memory. Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory. This is an odd quote: whose memory does the doctor feel should be impaired? His or someone else’s? Perhaps Schweitzer enjoyed – I would have to look him up to know for sure – a voluntary selective memory. This would be a necessity for physicians who work with sickness and dying but are not enabled to help more than superficially. And the quote above is clearly misleading and false. When a physicia...

The Upstairs Neighbor: Moire
http://theupstairsneighbor.blogspot.com/2010/01/moire-moire-is-created-in-fabrics-when.html
Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Moire is created in fabrics when two patterns mix and create an unintended pattern. Classically this is considered to be undesirable. But the basics of pattern mix is embedded in the laws of physics. Even waves in a wave tank will combine to augment and cancel each other and thus create a new pattern. As a natural phenomenon, moiré should really be considered not as an unwanted occurrence but more on the creation’s own aesthetics. The other resembles a torso of a human. Unfortu...
