The Fairmount: The House... the dream

http://www.thefairmount.blogspot.com/2007/12/house-dream.html

Friday, December 7, 2007. The House. the dream. Here's how it all started. This is the outside of the house some time after we moved in. the Spring of 2007. The house was not lived in or heated for several years before. A good deal of the interior was also vandalized. This was good news in the fact that I could actually afford the place, but bad because of the amount of work that needs to be put into it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The House. the dream.

Thursday, September 22, 2011. Kitchen Demolition Phase 1. This is the first phase of the demolition, where all the walls and structures were exposed. It was the fun part where we found "interesting" structural details and choices made in past remodels. The first picture here is the small wall next to the fridge. Note the I beam that extends part way across and the notched joists sitting on it. You can also see the old "knob and tube" wiring in these pictures. Laundry chute seen from the basement. It ...

Friday, September 2, 2011. These are pictures just minutes before the demolition started. View from door near stairs into main kitchen. More after the break. Ceiling was opened for leak from upstairs bathroom. Was there an attempt at refinishing at some point? Fridge as seen from dining room. Ceiling in main kitchen. peeling green paint. Built in corner cabinets in the breakfast area. Shelving in the kitchen. after demolition it looked like an old door way. Hallway between rooms - via side door.

The Fairmount: New Boiler

http://www.thefairmount.blogspot.com/2008/03/new-boiler.html

Monday, March 3, 2008. For more pictures of this boiler set up and for some technical discussion on it, see Gerry's site. In the middle of this picture is the Mouat gauge (a type of pressure gauge or manometer) that was taken off the old coal boiler and put onto this one. Even the installers were pretty surprised at how little pressure was needed to run this system. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Awesome Inc. template. Powered by Blogger.

Farkel West: April 2009

http://www.kawecki.us/2009_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 7, 2009. I know that it has been a long time since the last post, but the past three weeks have been the big race to the finish, and WE MADE IT! The stucco was finished, the water heater hooked up, and the floors uncovered; not to mention the boxes and boxes that were moved in, my truck breaking down again, and the film crew shooting in the garage! But with all that, we still spent our first night in the new house on Saturday March 28! And here is the bathroom now! We found the curtain for...

Farkel West: June 2009

http://www.kawecki.us/2009_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 30, 2009. From fire pit to sidewalk. Remember that old fire pit in the back yard? It is long gone, but now the bricks have found their way to the front yard. After 25 bags of gravel and 60 bags of sand, I started to lay the old bricks in place. The supply was supplemented by more old bricks found on craigslist. We wanted to use the old bricks so that the new walk didn't look too new. Monday, June 8, 2009. Tuesday, June 2, 2009. And green and green and green. The lawn is starting to fill in!

Farkel West: January 2009

http://www.kawecki.us/2009_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, January 28, 2009. It has been a very busy week. Last week the new front door came in and we installed the new front entry. First we removed the old windows and door, and then we reframed the front wall to house our new door. Originally we were not expecting the new door until the 30th, but they called and told us it was ready for pick up the same day that we started the work! Here are a few shots of the old wall coming down. This week we have been finishing the plaster and drywall work inside&...

Tuesday, May 26, 2009. It has been a week since we seeded the lawn and we are now starting to see the results of our efforts! The lawn is starting to come in. We are still on a twice a day watering routine but hopefully we can start to cut that back soon. Here are a few shots of the progress! Last week I also picked up 300 more bricks, so we should now have enough to do the front walkway! More to come soon! Friday, May 15, 2009. A little light, a little color, a lot of dirt. Over the past few weeks, we s...

Thursday, October 30, 2008. OK for real this time. Expect updates to be coming very soon as our roofer is scheduled to start on Monday and Abbey and I plan to have a very busy weekend doing demo! Thursday, February 12, 2009. Water, Trash, Skylights and FLOORS! Ok, so if anyone was wondering why we were thinking of changing our main water line from the street. On the left is the old connector to the city meter, and on the right is the new one. This week I also completed the first stage of the new roof on the garage. It is now fully covered with plywood and tar paper and ready for shingles. Not a moment too soon, as we are getting rain and lots of it over the next week! Of course, with more sanding...
