Who What . Why. Bits & Bobs. It’s easy to get caught up in first world problems and assume this is how it is for most. But it was with new insight that I spent an evening with an inspirational bunch of women from The Sisterhood in the local parish kitchen preparing food for disadvantaged families on behalf of GIFT. Three hours, 7… Read more ». Chat with us here. It’s with renewed vigour that I tap away at my keyboard all fired up to bring you my news. What’s so exciting you ask? Chat with us here.

Who What . Why. Bits & Bobs. This thoroughly modern take on a traditional and very well known Lebanese salad is just as quick to make as the original version using bulgar (cracked wheat). It comes to Green Tea and Treacle via the lovely Louise Edney who runs the Nourishing Nosh Cooking School. Quinoa (pronounced keen-wa) is often mistaken for a grain but is in fact a seed. Originating in the Andes region of South America it’s gluten free, protein and fibre rich and low GI. Serves 8 as a banquet dish.

Who What . Why. Bits & Bobs. I was lucky enough hear one of the world’s biggest gurus on calcium, Professor Connie Weaver speak at a symposium hosted by Dairy Australia last month. As our best and most available source of dietary calcium, you can’t really avoid talking dairy if you want to talk about dietary calcium. So what did I learn and what can I share? When milk is a source of calcium in our children’s growing years they’re likely to have bigger, denser and stronger bones. My worry is for our child...

Who What . Why. Bits & Bobs. MAKE: NO KNEAD BREAD. The smell of freshly baked bread is a real appetite stirrer but to be honest I’m not really a fan of making bread the traditional way. It’s not all the kneading, I quite enjoy that. It’s all the waiting around. I’m an impatient soul. So when presented with this recipe some years ago now, I… Read more ». Chat with us here. Who What . Why. Bits & Bobs. I had cause to think recently when a friend’s mother died from what was suspected to be a heart attack. Suddenly. Out of the blue. Tragic. It made me reflect on a piece I was commissioned to write a few years ago to support the National Heart Foundation’s Go Red for Women. Campaign. A campaign which raises awareness about women and heart disease. I interviewed an amazing woman who survived a heart attack at age 39. Yes, 39. In researching this piece I learnt:. And while there...

Who What . Why. Bits & Bobs. Make: Pancakes (with your kids). Well dear friends the irony of writing a blog promoting life balance is that at times one needs to practice what they preach. Who What . Why. Bits & Bobs. It’s citrus season and our cumquat tree has been prolific. And unlike last year when I picked the fruit but ran out of time use them, I was determined to not to let this years crop to go to waste. A good thing then, that the long weekend had arrived and rain had washed out children’s sport; the cumquat kitchenfest was on! We started with marmalade. I have good success with Stephanie Alexander’s recipe from her. Went to annoy her brother. I love a seasonal culinary challenge w...
