Oak Hill INNsights: Ironing the sheets, again!
http://oakhillinnsights.blogspot.com/2011/06/ironing-sheets-again.html
Thursday, June 16, 2011. Ironing the sheets, again! To say that an innkeeper’s work is never done is, indeed, an understatement. The laundry at Oak Hill is never ending. So, taking the time to iron every sheet and pillow case is a time consuming endeavor. We even buy starch in bulk and “scent” it with lavender. I used to complain (just a little) and my friends describe the effort as “crazy”. And then…a couple stayed with us for only one night. She had prayed that she would be sent to a fantastic place.

Oak Hill INNsights: ADDED ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL FLAG
http://oakhillinnsights.blogspot.com/2011/08/added-another-international-flag.html
Monday, August 15, 2011. ADDED ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL FLAG. We added another flag to our collection of international guests. Francois, Christine and the well spoken Amelie stayed with us for 4 nights. Amelie, an extremely bright and adorable 23 year old, is doing a 3 month internship in Atlanta and her mama, Christine, and Francois took advantage of it to visit the US. Francois, an avid angler in France, went fly fishing in Cherokee with a guide from Curtis Wright Outfitters. Although somewhat less than c...

Oak Hill INNsights: Don't let rising gas prices keep you at home...
http://oakhillinnsights.blogspot.com/2011/05/dont-let-rising-gas-prices-keep-you-at.html
Saturday, May 21, 2011. Don't let rising gas prices keep you at home. Gasoline prices nearing $4 per gallon will impact travel plans for some over the May 27-30 Memorial Day holiday period, during which 34.9 million Americans will venture at least 50 miles from home, according to AAA. However, did you know that an increase in fuel costs does not necessarily make travel out of reach? It costs just $20.17 more to travel round trip from Raleigh to WNC than it did at this time last year. Traditionally, when ...

Oak Hill INNsights: THOUGHTS ON IRENE
http://oakhillinnsights.blogspot.com/2011/08/thoughts-on-irene.html
Saturday, August 27, 2011. Having spent far too long in South Florida, it has occurred to me just how different things are from the North East. I’m sure that longtime FL residents are “piffing” about the fuss being made over Irene. We wouldn’t even put up the shutters for a category one hurricane! That said, I remember my first hurricane…Andrew…and what a panic we were in trying to prepare. We lived on the 3. Floor in an apartment with three sliding glass door-walls. How different this situation is!

Oak Hill INNsights: March 2011
http://oakhillinnsights.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 9, 2011. A very special Mother Daughter Getaway. Carla and her daughter, 10 year old Janessa visited today, and were on a very special mission. Janessa has been missing her great-grandmother who spent her entire life up here in the mountains of WNC and wanted to place flowers on her grave. Janessa also brought along a little white teddy (gifted to her by her great grandmother) appropriately named “Granny” for assistance. So we went to work. It’s amazing how much kids retain! The birdR...

Oak Hill INNsights: August 2010
http://oakhillinnsights.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 25, 2010. As I sit to compose my very first blog, I am compelled to reflect upon how life has changed in the past 3 years. No more suits and heels! Most all who know me are aware that I have dreamed of becoming an innkeeper for a very long time. Can't believe it's actually come to be. In retrospect, there must have been a. To be certain, we are more than pleased with our choices. And we can honestly say that Oak Hill is truely a reflection of Deb and Shell. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
