Most of the gifts for the Great Nanaimo Toy Drive are donated by the people of Nanaimo and we would like to thank them for their contributions. It also takes many organizations assisting with putting out drop boxes, setting aside merchandise, and making a company effort to collect toys, books, teen gifts and money for this worthy cause. The following are some of the companies and organizations that have contributed to make the Toy Drive possible.

In 1982, Dorothy Gaspardone of the Nanaimo Altrusa group felt that, at Christmas, underprivileged children should be assured of a gift under the tree. Dorothy contacted the Nanaimo Corrections Centre who agreed to help clean, repair, store and deliver used, donated toys to a distribution site. The project was called The Great Nanaimo Toy Drive. In 1985, The Great Nanaimo Toy Drive held its first registration in coordination with the Salvation Army. Bruce Rowland and Carolyn Isles.

The Great Nanaimo Toy Drive is entirely supported by the people, groups and businesses of Nanaimo. You can help by purchasing toys and gifts for children ages newborn to 16. Parents or caregivers select items for their children. These include:. 1 more expensive to toy or two lesser. A board game or puzzle for the family. An activity kit or puzzle. A stuffed animal for children 10 and under. We welcome all donations and are grateful for the support. Items for children ages 10-16 are always needed.
