Vancouver: A Local's Perspective: June 2011
http://bcrobyn.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 25, 2011. Last night was the preview of the Cheaper Show 10 at a temporary venue set up on the corner of Kingsway and Broadway, just across the street from Our Town Cafe. The Cheaper Show is an art show where every piece is selling for $200. It's a way for artists - local and international - to showcase their work, while also providing art lovers with a way to purchase art without going broke. It's also a bit of a who's who of the Vancouver art scene, as always. Saturday, June 18, 2011.

Vancouver: A Local's Perspective: August 2010
http://bcrobyn.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Return to the Kootenays: Creston. I'm blogging from the last few hours of August 2010 in beautiful downtown Kaslo (in the Kaslo Hotel. No less) where the power in the entire town went out for 10 minutes about an hour ago. You don't know darkness until you're in a remote mountain town during a blackout. Come back to the Kootenays. And so here I am, one week later, not even, and I'm back in the Kootenays. Who knew I'd back here so soon? My destination this time? Of course, I was d...

It's pretty embarrassing, and with exception to a passionate few, I'd say that the average Canadian, at least here in BC, is equally perplexed when it comes to local politics. The thing w...

Vancouver: A Local's Perspective: October 2010
http://bcrobyn.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 28, 2010. Deerhunter at the Rickshaw. I make no secret that I dabble in concert photography for fun. It comes in waves. sometimes I can go an entire month without a show, and at other times (read: October), there are shows every second evening. Maybe it's the Bladerunner-esque facade:. If you're reading this, you're probably already familiar with Deerhunter, but if you're not, here's one of my favourite tracks:. Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Pixar comes to Vancouver. And at the airport.

Vancouver: A Local's Perspective: April 2010
http://bcrobyn.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 26, 2010. RIP Sophia Books and Elfsar Comics. It was the Granville Book Co. a few years ago. Then it was Duthies. Now it's Sophia Books. The news spread around Twitter earlier this morning that beloved independent bookstore Sophia Books was finally closing its doors due to Vancouver's obnoxious rent rates. The Georgia Straight. Man, what a heartbreaker! Oh, and get this. As I'm composing this little post, news is spreading on Twitter that Yaletown-based Elfsar Comics. Sunday, April 25, 2010.

knit_north: spruce tip jelly
http://knit-north.blogspot.com/2010/06/yes-you-read-title-correctly.html
Monday, June 7, 2010. Yes, you read the title correctly . spruce tip. It is spruce tip collecting time in the Yukon . or really the end of it. For a couple weeks in May you can go collect the new 'buds' just before the brown papery covering has fallen off . before they get too mature. You can eat them right off the tree - they taste almost lemony. So Christine and I inspired by our new Miche Genest cookbooks. Went out into the woods to gather them up. Many bug bites later we emerged with a bag each!
