I See Psychology… Everywhere. Back after a long hiatus. Well, I’m trying to get back to the blog. Let’s start with an interesting couple of cases right in the news. Seems a couple of prominent people being recommended for termination for some offensive comments. James Watson (as in Watson and Crick) is one of the offenders:. Then Barack Obama has recommended canning the head of voting rights for the DoJ for his comments. 8220;There are inequities in health care. There are a variety of inequities in t...

Psychologists have long used this technology to study, for example, babies’ interest in objects and people’s responses to novel stimuli, but I wasn’t familiar with the marketing research on this line. I See Psychology… Everywhere. Face Recognition from Minimal Pixelation. The superb blog Cognitive Daily. Reports on a great study. Showing our ability to recognize faces from as few as 6 pixels across. This is pretty astounding stuff, and it demonstrates the incredible power of the mind to make sense of what may at first glance appear to be random stimuli. Yet another victory for Gestalt theorists! Chapter 3. Judging probability and frequency.: March 2009
http://judgmentanddecisionmaking3.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Chapter 3. Judging probability and frequency. There is an error in Figure 3.3. This is the tree diagram representing Eddy's (1982) medical problem. For the branch representing P(Negative Cancer) the probability should be 0.208, NOT 0.028. Accordingly, the number at the rightmost end of the branch should be 0.0028, NOT 0.00028. This does not affect the answer to the problem stated in the text, which remains 0.077. My thanks to Chloe Turner (one of my students) for pointing this out. Saturday, 14 March 2009.
