The Irrational Consumer – After Hours. Random thoughts on things I see. November 1, 2011 / Simon Thorne. Optimus Prime’d to snack. This was something i saw the other day while browsing my way around Tesco’s in Bangor. I thought it was really innovative positioning. Snack with you film tonight? Movies and snacks go together all the time, the cinema, at the video store, and how many time when we settle down of a night to watch a movie do we wish we had picked up some popcorn/snacks? A working mans breakfast! | The Irrational Consumer - After Hours

https://theirrationalconsumer247.wordpress.com/2011/11/03/a-working-mans-breakfast

The Irrational Consumer – After Hours. Random thoughts on things I see. November 3, 2011 / Simon Thorne. A working mans breakfast! I have been for a stroll around Tesco’s again, and found something else that has tickled me. Muesli has been criticised by men (such as my dad) since it became popular. Often considered a woman’s breakfast or “rabbit food”. It looks like Tesco’s is looking to change that with its new packaging on one of their options. Filed under Product Packaging. https://theirrationalconsumer247.wordpress.com/2011/11/02/book-review-the-paradox-of-choice-why-more-is-less-by-barry-schwartz

The Irrational Consumer – After Hours. Random thoughts on things I see. November 2, 2011 / Simon Thorne. Book Review – The Paradox of Choice: Why more is less by Barry Schwartz. I stumbled across this book almost by mistake (Thank you Amazon Recommendations). However, when my new batch of books arrived I was drawn to this almost immediately. Although the authors of the other books were familiar to me, I got drawn to this, maybe it was the colour. Filed under Book Reviews. A working mans breakfast! Fill i...

https://theirrationalconsumer.wordpress.com/2011/11/24/one-mans-death-is-a-tragedy-a-million-deaths-is-a-statistic

Just another WordPress.com site, or is it? November 24, 2011 / Simon Thorne. 8220;One mans death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.”. John isn’t the only child affected though; every day. 5000 children will die from lack of clean water. That’s 35,000 children a week! After all, what can you do? Donating a few pounds a month is hardly going to make a difference is it? More interestingly, what were your feelings after the initial video? I believe this is of importance due to the availability an...

Just another WordPress.com site, or is it? December 2, 2011 / Simon Thorne. I can predict everything that happened last week – The Hindsight Bias. Aren’t my predictive powers remarkable? Now when people ask me about events, I can say, I. That would happen . This is common for me, when I go to a football match, after the game, everybody. That the financial crisis of 2008 would happen, and line up to get on talk shows to illustrate what should have been done to prevent it. When actually, they didn’t. We ar...

Creation Can Negate Objectivity – The IKEA effect | The Irrational Consumer

Just another WordPress.com site, or is it? November 18, 2011 / Simon Thorne. Creation Can Negate Objectivity – The IKEA effect. Last week we had our results from our first round of blogging. Although my results were good, I wanted better. Not only did I want better, I thought I. First of, lets explore how creating something can raise our valuation of that item. Ariely and his colleagues, Michael Norton and Daniel Mochon, used an experiment. Procedure, in which after the participants bid, it would generat...

Just another WordPress.com site, or is it? October 20, 2011 / Simon Thorne. Mine is better than yours. What to write, what to write? Blog, I can write about whatever I want. It is. Blog after all. You can buy it from me if you want, but I suspect that I may value it more than you do. Why is that? Why does ownership over something distort our valuations? Lets talk about ownership. We tend to value our own belonging more than other peoples. Why is that? But first, when does something become ours? A lot of ...

I hope I don’t regret this blog… | The Irrational Consumer

https://theirrationalconsumer.wordpress.com/2011/12/09/i-hope-i-dont-regret-this-blog

Just another WordPress.com site, or is it? December 9, 2011 / Simon Thorne. I hope I don’t regret this blog…. I would put this down to a near miss. There was money on other answers which were also wrong, but the fact that they had moved from the correct answer to the wrong answer in the last few seconds just made it all the worse. The near miss is similar to that a silver medalist will feel. The bronze medalist is likely to be much happier. So close, yet so far. Barry Schwartz, author of Why more is less.

Incentives for Bankers – The Bonus Outrage | The Irrational Consumer

https://theirrationalconsumer.wordpress.com/2011/11/11/incentives-for-bankers-the-bonus-outrage

Just another WordPress.com site, or is it? November 11, 2011 / Simon Thorne. Incentives for Bankers – The Bonus Outrage. In 2008 the world ended. Ok, not quite but it sure felt like it was about to. The financial crisis of 2008 left many angry (angry may be an understatement). People had trusted the banks with their money and the banks hadn’t acted in their best interest. Following government bailouts and a helping hand from the taxpayer, the banks landed on their feet (sort of). Yerkes and Dodson, 1908.

You get what you pay for. | The Irrational Consumer

https://theirrationalconsumer.wordpress.com/2011/10/27/you-get-what-you-pay-for

Just another WordPress.com site, or is it? October 27, 2011 / Simon Thorne. You get what you pay for. We are often under the illusion that the more we pay for something, the better it will be. This isn’t always the case, albeit I’ll take. Any day. I’ve also been scorn by the big price tag too; I’ve had more than 1 pair of 50 jeans that have fallen apart while my bargain bucket pair is still going strong. But what other affect does price have? Is the more expensive wine better than the rest? Prices. O...

Monday, May 30, 2011. The Bombing of Osage Avenue". Produced in 1986 for WHYY, The Bombing of Osage Avenue. Examines the 1985 MOVE bombing and its aftermath through interviews with neighborhood residents, footage of the siege and the investigation that followed, and the poetic narration of Toni Cade Bambara. The MOVE bombing was a “massacre,” an example of a “city wag[ing] war on its citizens,” and proof of the corruption of the system. The Bombing of Osage Avenue. The film also touches (briefly) on the ...

The Irrational Consumer – After Hours. Random thoughts on things I see. November 11, 2011 / Simon Thorne. Book Review – The Upside of Irrationality by Dan Ariely. I use the term “Book Review” loosely. Having read Ariely’s earlier book Predictably Irrational I was delighted to stumble across his newer book on Amazon. It very much follows on from Predictably Irrational but focuses a lot more on the benefits of our all too human irrationalities. Filed under Book Reviews. November 3, 2011 / Simon Thorne.

THE IRRATIONAL DESIRE OF NOTHINGNESS

THE IRRATIONAL DESIRE OF NOTHINGNESS. Monday, September 04, 2006. There are rational reasons for why the universe functions as it does, and there are irrational reasons too. Rational reasons are local and temporary violations of the irrational laws that quintessentially govern the universe. Irrational dictates that everything in the universe is intertwined and interconnected, and the same thing even when different. The only event that is not interchangeable, intertwined or the same is explanation. Univer...

The Irrationality of Rationality. The True Revolution is that of conciousness. So I went to a Communist party meeting, does this make me a Commie? October 19, 2013. A couple of days ago whilst cleaning the never ending pile of take way menus, religious pamphlets and other shit that fly’s through our door, I discovered a little leaflet titled Capitalist Crisis Socialist Solution This caught my eye. Zaterdag 6 oktober 2012. Ain't it just a kick in the nuts. Ain't it just a kick in the nuts. Sort of the feeling like your intestines. May pour out your nose. While at the same time. The muddy banks of the Mississippi. May overrun in your pants. And you gotta piss harder. Than Katrina's opera of prophetic rain. And you can feel the laughter behind your. Eyes burning like vodka socket shots. And you know that you are going half crazy. While the other half is already gone. Somewhere off in the universe.
