The Italian Job: June 2011

http://www.theitalianjob-jen.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, 25 June 2011. What better place to start my Blog than my favourite lunch destination in the Garden Route, Fynboshoek Cheese Farm! Seated in his rustic farmhouse next to an old cracked blue ceramic wood fireplace, Alje as always is warm and accomodating .and nothing like a glass or 2 of my new best friend for winter, Diemersfontein Pinotage, to warm me up! Which Jodi and I just can't seem to stop drinking these days! The warm foccacia straight from the oven with course salt and rosemary was heav...

The Italian Job: July 2011

http://www.theitalianjob-jen.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Friday, 29 July 2011. Buongiorno from Italy again! Did not have too much to say for myself this last week as working at the restaurant and not moving around much. The hours, as I said before, are pretty gruelling so it's just been head down and getting on with learning as much as I can. When Stefano arrives, I will be doing a lot more travelling and hopefully I will sound more exciting then I do right now :). I love seeing all the fresh produce and the fish arriving every morning. I will say however comi...

The Italian Job: Engaged in the Karoo!

http://www.theitalianjob-jen.blogspot.com/2011/07/engaged-in-karoo.html

Tuesday, 5 July 2011. Engaged in the Karoo! The Karoo is a very special place for Stef and I, although I believe many would miss its beauty preferring the more tropical landscapes of other parts of South Africa.but me the arid scrubland, scattered by the many majestic mandarin aloes.the peace of watching the winter sun dip behind the mountains, is simply beautiful. Arrivederci e ci vediamo presto! 7 July 2011 at 12:32. Cant wait to hear your stories. I found that I fell in love with the small towns of It...

The G Spot: February 2015

http://icantgetablogspot.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 16, 2015. Fish on a bicycle. What is happening to this lovely land? Why are the masses still so ignorant after twenty years of democracy and why do they continue to vote for a corrupt and incompetent government? Why are ordinary citizens not holding the people who they voted for accountable for the mess this country is in? This week I wrote that trying to stay positive in this country is like a fish trying to ride a bicycle! Sunday, February 1, 2015. Enjoying an afternoon of R&R in a B&B...

The G Spot: May 2015

http://icantgetablogspot.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 29, 2015. A sturdy vehicle is needed and we arrived shaken but not stirred! A stiff drink was needed to recover form the bumps! Its called the Wild Coast for a reason and we arrived to the sad news that a farmer out fishing had drowned - swept away and as yet not found! Another drink was call for! I had heard about the cows on the beach but seeing is believing! Even in peoples homes! Mazeppa Bay has its own island accessible via the bridge which makes a stunning backdrop to the sunrise. I...

The G Spot: Flight of Angels

http://icantgetablogspot.blogspot.com/2015/07/flight-of-angels.html

Saturday, July 11, 2015. Today started on a high note - after a run to the river to greet the sunrise, a quick blog post and breakfast, I find myself enroute to the helipad to experience 'the Flight of Angels' - a flip over the Victoria Falls. today my driver is Sydney - "Oh like the city in Australia," I chirp, "Yes", he replied, "they named it after me! I like his style. We are weighed -EEK! I have a window seat next to Marilyn and Bruce from Melbourne - up we go! Free spirits recognize one another imm...

The G Spot: A nice cup of something - I think???

http://icantgetablogspot.blogspot.com/2015/08/something-nice-and-foamy-i-think.html

Saturday, August 8, 2015. A nice cup of something - I think? It was dead - deceased - no longer with us - had passed through the pearly gates (as they would say on Monty Python). My shriek caught Vs attention and he examined it - He pronounced it to be a gecko - rather a large one - about the size of a king prawn and not dissimilar in colour to an uncooked one - Eeuwe! The foamy water made sense now and the realisation that we had enjoyed 2 or 3 cups of gecko tea was not a happy moment. A peek at my week.

The G Spot: October 2014

http://icantgetablogspot.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 31, 2014. The larger the gap between what one wants and what one has, the greater the dissatisfaction - Less materialism equals more happiness says Dr Tatzel. Happiness comes from 'doing' rather than 'having'. This is great news to me as I am 'doing' a lot more and 'having' a lot less lately! They are also easier on our earth's resources and they make us interested and interesting. Friday, October 17, 2014. A peek at my week! Where I have been. Who I have me. He composed himself and carri...

The G Spot: Festival Fayre

http://icantgetablogspot.blogspot.com/2015/07/yes-its-that-time-of-year-when-i-sit-on.html

Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Yes its that time of the year when I sit on my bed surrounded by a knitted headband and scarf, wooden heart, beaded bangles, assorted chutney's, livid green wire bowl and a goat .yes.and ask my self WTF! The Festival, when all the left brain logic that you credited yourself with leaves your head and the crazy arty side moves in and takes over - I love it! By 10h00 we had laughed, cried and laughed again! So all in all a successful morning - and then we hit The Village Green.

The G Spot: April 2015

http://icantgetablogspot.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 23, 2015. Enough really is enough and while most of us have been grumbling for a while about the state of our country, its taken a loss of a very precious life to push people over the edge. We are outraged about Jayde Panayiotou's murder and its seems that at least one of the suspects should have been behind bars but due to our incompetent justice system he was given the opportunity to kill. Why are the murders of our farmers not being taken seriously by the world leaders? So there I was ...

The G Spot: Chobe!

http://icantgetablogspot.blogspot.com/2015/07/chobe.html

Friday, July 10, 2015. I was greeted this morning by a huge grin - a set of walking teeth really, "I am Suprise" he said , "your driver today" I asked if his mother didn't know she was pregnant and he told me thAt he was a twin and him mother was only expecting one - he beamed proudly! We walk to our vehicle and I am introduced to his colleague - Big Boy - I am too polite and a little afraid to ask how he got his name! I was sad to part company with my two new friends but we agreed to swap photos via ema...

The Italianista | A Guide to Italian Culture

A Guide to Italian Culture. Easter is More Than Eggs. Every family has its own traditions for each holiday. Some are religious, and some are related to food. In my family, my grandparents go to church in the morning, and then yell at my parents and I for not going. I swear I am going to try to go this year, Grandma! When they get home, we always have dinner there. Every year we have the same food on Easter Sunday. This is my favorite Easter treat! What do other cultures have for Easter dinner? It is the ...
