Sunday, March 21, 2010. Ometipi, the volcanic Island (Nicaragua). Ometepe (the place of two hills) is the largest island on a fresh water lake in the world. And is basically one volcano joined by a thin strip of land with a second cone created by the rock it spewed out. Mestlitepe is one of the indigenous names and translates as 'the mountain that menstruates'. Her last blood letting was 1957. JacknDave: March 2009

http://thejonckels.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 22, 2009. San Jose Del Pacifico. Later we stop for filling potato and guacamole salsa wraps, a snip at 10 pesos (33p) each. The red, dry plateau stretches an extraordinary distance broken only by the odd hill rising like an air bubble in toffee out of the flat expanse, we continue to wind our way upwards. 8221; We’ll have to wait and see. I have a hunch when the cloud lifts there’s going to be peachy view so we take the cosy but basic mountain retreat. We eat spicy chorizo tortillas and dri...

Sunday, May 24, 2009. We are headed to a little surf spot in Nicaragua, its 600 miles away. This post covers the journey and stop over’s. Here’s a map of the route since leaving Mexico City, if you are anything like us your Central American geography may be patchy. We decide to visit Antigua on route in Guatemala. Dave has been to Guatemala before and it’s more expensive than many of the countries in Central America so it’s just a quick stop over for us. Wooden arches of our muffin breakfast square.

Sunday, June 7, 2009. San Juan del sur. We arrive in a town called Rivas, then share a cab the rest of the way with two Americans that are having a break from their border town temporary home. They are working there helping with aids issues while avoiding the regular street gun battles that occur in this shady outpost, brave pair. Here’s the front…. Windows like the eyes of Marvin the paranoid android. Here’s our balcony, it cost 10pounds a night (v pricey for these parts! Its that pesky Humboldt current.

The Butcher Blog

The Life and Times of Jonathan, Christine, Maggie, Jack, and Thomas. Friday, October 22, 2010. Making room for the next Butcher baby. Just in time for baby Em to arrive, Thomas got his first big boy haircut! He cried through the entire experience, but didn't squirm or even try to jump ship at any point. And his reward at the end - a sugar cookie - quickly mollified his sadness over losing what we dubbed "the girl curl" :D. Wednesday, June 23, 2010. That Blissful 10 Minutes of Peace. Monday, June 14, 2010.
