Musings of a Milkmaid. Adventures on a small homestead. The Indian Ladder Trail. June 22, 2015. Middot; by daisysmilkmaid. The Park is most known for it’s famous Indian Ladder Trail. And that’s what we hiked. Wow. It was awesome. I was a bit nervous at times – one is basically walking on a foot-path above and below which are sheer cliffs. But it was still pretty amazing. The entrance to the Indian Ladder Trail. It began and ended with several flights of stairs. And another to show how sheer the cliffs are.

Musings of a Milkmaid. Adventures on a small homestead. Oxen: Living a Dream. July 24, 2015. Middot; by daisysmilkmaid. Maybe that’s where this whole thing started. All those years back when I was a kid. Or maybe this began way before my time…perhaps this is deeply rooted in my past, a heritage of strong men and women carving a future for themselves, an ancestry that reaches all the way from Texas to New England. And here I am, years later, doing what I never thought I’d ever do for real. We had so many ...

Musings of a Milkmaid. Adventures on a small homestead. May 29, 2015. Middot; by daisysmilkmaid. Hazel is finally settling into a routine. While I am still using the anti-kick device purely as precaution she has accepted her fate as a nurse-mama and milk cow.🙂 When it’s milking time she leads into the stanchion beautifully where she stands crunching contentedly on a whole bowl-full of carrots as I wash her udder and teats. A completely transformed cow from last weekend! Hillside Homestead’s Oliver.

Musings of a Milkmaid. Adventures on a small homestead. June 18, 2015. Middot; by daisysmilkmaid. Boaz’s horn nubs started popping through at two weeks so I made an appointment for the vet to come out. Everything went well. Except for one thing: when the vet gave him the sedative I thought I had hold of Boaz tight enough; but when that needle poked him – WHAM! Of the disbudding went well. Nope I was NOT taking chances. Like he was wearing a football helmet! But Boaz is back to being his healthy, playful,...
