Thoughts from my shop in the woods (by Christopher Landy)
But I can’t get woodworking this week!!! | The Lighthearted Woodworker
http://thelightheartedwoodworker.com/2015/02/20/but-i-cant-get-woodworking-this-week
Thoughts from my shop in the woods. Skip to primary content. But I can’t get woodworking this week! February 20, 2015. So today is the last day of Get Woodworking Week 2015 and I am 2500 miles from my shop. So I haven’t got any woodworking done. So instead of sharing what I’ve been up to in the shop I thought I would share some photos of pieces I’ve found travels. I’ll start with some of the woodwork in my hotel in Beverly Hills. A detail of one of the plates. A detail of the same bar panels. But who am ...

Thoughts from my shop in the woods. Skip to primary content. Roubo’s Apartment Workbench pt. 1. June 9, 2015. Now I have not confirmed with The Schwartz but I do not believe Roubo ever made it to this side of the pond. If he did he probably would have moved to Brooklyn, with the rest of the French hipsters. As a Hand Tool School member I admired Shannon’s Joinery Bench. This seemed perfect. I liked this one in particular. Forgive me– I cannot find the owner to give due credit! I have certainly been intri...

Thoughts from my shop in the woods. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Tag Archives: Dream Shop. My once in a lifetime afternoon in the shop of Sam Maloof. March 28, 2015. A few weeks ago, when I was in LA, I snuck out of work one day and drove down to take a tour of the Sam Maloof house. After the tour Kristine took me back to meet Larry. It’s hard for me to articulate the joy I got from my time Larry spent with me. Just being in Sam Maloof’s shop was an incredible exper...I really thin...

Thoughts from my shop in the woods. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Roubo’s Apartment Workbench, part deux. February 15, 2016. I could have built three benches in the time it took me to finishing blogging about one. I attempted to use hand tools as much as possible, but given my skills, not to mention my patience, I certainly used a combination of hand and power tools. Packed for the trip to Brooklyn! Roubo’s Apartment Workbench pt. 1. June 9, 2015. Joinery bench was my inspiration...

Thoughts from my shop in the woods. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Category Archives: Dream Shop. It’s Just a Dream Shop! December 22, 2014. Well it might be a dream, but I’ve certainly put a lot of thought into it! I really think I am on to something. Let’s start with the exterior:. This is the view as you drive up the driveway. Below is a two car garage and a shed for outdoor tools. From the driveway you can drive up to a sliding barn door for easy unloading. 8211;no more flimsy Ri...

Ebony chopping board: cutting the groove | Guitar building by hand

Guitar building by hand. Musings, tips and tricks from a budding guitar builder. Ebony chopping board: cutting the groove. March 1, 2015. Before starting the groove I used a marking gauge to traced out the edge of the channel and marked the outside corners by tracing around a coin:. The marked out the channel on the board. I used a carving gouge to cut out most of the channel:. Using the scraper to smooth out the channel. Next I rounded off the edges of the board slightly it was done! March 1, 2015.
Keepsake box: the hinges | Guitar building by hand

Guitar building by hand. Musings, tips and tricks from a budding guitar builder. Keepsake box: the hinges. January 18, 2015. A whole blog post about hinges? I eventually got them from had a ‘cheap’ and ‘expensive’ variety. I settled for the more expensive ones. They were a lot better: they opened and closed much more smoothly and had a nicer finish. After a bit of fiddling I got the lid to fit (more or less) seamlessly onto the box. It was a lot of work, but I think it was well worth the extra effort.

Guitar building by hand. Musings, tips and tricks from a budding guitar builder. Lost your hearing and balance? October 4, 2013. This blog is about how woodworking has helped me through a personal experience). 8216; which can be accompanied by the loss of the balance organ in the affected ear, and so it was with me. Everything had just stopped working. In many cases (such as mine) the cause remains unknown. Some other projects: a wooden spoon, a magazine storage box and a lampshade. I’m still going...
Assembling the ebony chopping board | Guitar building by hand
https://handguitar.wordpress.com/2015/02/26/assembling-the-ebony-chopping-board
Guitar building by hand. Musings, tips and tricks from a budding guitar builder. Assembling the ebony chopping board. February 26, 2015. I changed tactics and decided to use the machines in our shared workshop. I used a planer (on a very fine setting) and thicknesser to get the blanks flat and square. This went a lot quicker with better results. Since I hadn’t used the machines much until now, I also got to understand them a lot better. Test run before glue up. Glueing up the board. February 26, 2015.
Keepsake box: dovetailing and glueing | Guitar building by hand

Guitar building by hand. Musings, tips and tricks from a budding guitar builder. Keepsake box: dovetailing and glueing. November 27, 2014. Glueing up the box was tricky. I didn’t heed the six P’s. Sufficiently. I forgot to check my box was square before glueing! I only remembered this after the clamps were on for a couple of minutes. This meant doing a lot of fiddling while the glue was setting. Another lesson learned. Glueing up the box: you can never have too many clamps! November 27, 2014. Notify me o...
Might As Well Dance: A Necessary Storage Unit
https://barbsid.blogspot.com/2012/02/necessary-storage-unit.html
Might As Well Dance. While we're here, We Might As Well Dance! Saturday, February 25, 2012. A Necessary Storage Unit. I started with drawings to design a tall skinny cupboard to fit an available space. I had 60" in height, 15-1/2" in width, and 10" in depth to work with. I did a lot of scribbling and gathered some plywood and old shelving salvaged from a kitchen remodel years ago. Then I turned four bun feet out of oak because it would wear well against a concrete floor. So, enough with the shop organiza...

I'm busy with Christmas production, both family gifts and website offerings, but the plans. For a new hand tool cabinet are always teasing at my brain. (See my plan for it here:. Might As Well Dance. While we're here, We Might As Well Dance! Saturday, May 10, 2014. Mini Lathe Extended Bed. I'm still working on shop projects, as well as gifts and retail products. Busy, busy. Wanting to get back to work on my plan for a tall hand tool cabinet, I was not keen on spending a lot of time fabricating a longer lathe stand for last winter's purchase of a bed extension for my Jet Mini lathe. Julien Lecomte's Blog. Woodworking, Amateur Astronomy, Web Development and Operating System Programming. A Sliding Dovetail Bridle Joint for a Federal Card Table. During Fine Woodworking Live 2013. Emphasized that he liked using a “sliding dovetail bridle joint” for the two front legs of a Federal card table. The reason? Contrary to what you might think, it is actually much easier to make than a standard bridle joint! This entry was posted in Woodworking. September 28, 2013. October 1, 2013 at 6:23 am.
TUMBLEWOOD CREATIONS: A Facelift without the Kenny Rogers Look

Monday, November 26, 2012. A Facelift without the Kenny Rogers Look. As always, I underestimate everything. I really wanted to not wait until I had a huge amount of information to report, but again find myself needing to write a rather long post. One thing I'd been waiting on was a proper outfeed table for the table saw. I knew approximately what I wanted, but once I found out I was going to be able to take the bending course with Seth, I put it off until I got through that. I couldn't easily bui...I nee...
