Have the things that you need readily accessible. What will you need to enjoy your time on the water? Map, camera or snack; whatever it is, keep it handy! Load your canoe properly. Make sure the adults out-number the kids. If the grown ups can out-number the kids by at least 2:1, your experience will be more relaxed, more fun and far safer! This is especially true the younger the kids are. Kids entertain each other and can allow you to put your feet up for an hour in the afternoon! Let them bring a special toy. Bringing the favourite stuffed animal goes a long way to let your child relax and enjoy the experience. Let them portage it! Avoid steep, rocky campsites.

As a very young child I was introduced to interior camping. We would go as a family into Algonquin Park for overnight and day trips as we lived very close to the Kawaywaymog Lake access point. In high school my future sister in law Anne, some other girlfriends and I went into the park for a few days and that was the start of the annual Ladies Trip! I wanted to post my birth story for those interested. I was checked by my nurse.only 2 cms. And 80% effaced, I was disappointed and a little scared.
