The Lovely Lisa Narrowboat (but currently called Lucy Lowther). My travels around the canals and rivers of England. Tuesday, 14 October 2014. September and into Caen Hill Marina. I haven't moved since my last post - partly because it is a great location and partly because it looks like the fantastic late summer has come to an end and we are now getting winds and rain, so not inclined to move. This used to be the terminus of the Kennet Navigation from Reading, before the K&A canal construction to Bath.

Not for nothing is it called "The Mighty Trent". Discharge into the Humber - a greater volume than the Thames! There is not much to see because of the flood embankments but a bit further up is this ex windmill. I did have a bit of excitement at one point - the engine overheated. I was mighty glad when the warning lig...After...

M&A intend to head down here a bit to visit the nature reserve and will probably catch up with me in a few days. The River Tame from the aqueduct. Pete, Sherry and Yvonne, Sherry's mother. Sherry at the tiller - it was James' fault she nearly crashed! She did very well. A lovely day - both weather and company.

I spent the morning exploring Tewkesbury and treated myself to a cooked breakfast (lunch really! Excellent value at £6, including a large pot of tea. Very interesting town with many fine old buildings. Very old house next to the Abbey. The vast cylindrical arches along the complete length of the nave. There are many highly decorated tombs. M5 crossing the river.
