What Could You Do If You Weren't Afraid? - The Mahogany Way
http://themahoganyway.com/what-could-you-do-if-you-werent-afraid
Loving The Ordinary and Capturing Moments. What Could You Do If You Weren’t Afraid? January 12, 2015. Fear can be paralyzing…but fear can also be a great motivator. I was nervous about starting this weekly challenge. What if no one reads what I write? What if people read and think it’s stupid? What if I get to the end of the year and no one has joined in? What if someone reads and feels inspired or empowered? Either way, I’ll have 52 posts to look back on with a feeling of accomplishment. Fear is going t...

Loving The Ordinary and Capturing Moments. August 24, 2016. Ava started school last week. She’s been excited and nervous, but enjoying the experience so far. Love that she asks me to walk her to class every day. The pickup line can be a long wait, but if I arrive 10-15mins before school lets out then we only wait about the same amount of time for her to come out. Of course I use that time wisely and play on snap chat with Kiah and Samuel…. Her teachers are really nice and friendly. Kiah said she really w...

Loving The Ordinary and Capturing Moments. Enjoy The Little Things In Life. August 31, 2015. Samuel had to have blood drawn today and he was not happy about it. The temps are back in the high 80’s and it was a teensy bit humid today, so I promised the kids slushies and a park once we left the hospital. This time we visited Thomas Cloud Park. The kids played and I sat on one of the picnic tables for a while, looking around and thinking…thinking…thinking. Admiring the colors and textures. More signs of fall.
Learning To Live Fearless - The Mahogany Way

Loving The Ordinary and Capturing Moments. Learning To Live Fearless. August 3, 2015. When I asked for help on my Facebook page with writing prompts and someone suggested the word. It stuck with me. I talked about fear earlier this year in my post. What Could You Do If You Weren’t Afraid. I wasn’t sure why I felt a strong need to write about being fearless. What else could I possibly have to say on the subject? Making fear based decisions left me feeling trapped and always second guessing myself. That...

The Peregrine Falcon Academy: January 2015
http://feistyfalcons.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 25, 2015. Cool Things This Week. We are currently obsessed with They Might Be Giant's Here Comes Science album. It's playing nonstop in the car these days. D watched a bunch of homemade lego star wars stop-action films people have posted on youtube, then made a new one of his own. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous the past week, and so we've spent a lot of time out at parks and playgrounds taking advantage of it. D figured out pumping! We found a fun book. Sunday, January 11, 2015.

Thursday, May 28, 2015. I was thinking the other day about a lot of the common complaints made about video games and tv, reasons given for why they are "bad for you," and how many of them also apply to (.drum roll.) reading, an activity that almost everyone agrees is Very Good For You. And so I started writing a tongue-in-cheek pearl-clutching post about it in my head. Something along the lines of. I mean, at least when kids are watching TV or playing a game it's usually with other people. That CAN'T be ...
Verde Mama: August 2014
http://verdemama.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 17, 2014. How does your garden grow? Around here as well. There are things that are harder for us because of where we have chosen to live (in the rural midwest US, quite a distance from any cities), but the benefits outweigh the challenges for us. When I am feeling restless or wistful, it helps immensely to share my garden with a little sprite (in a newly knitted bonnet. To help me see all of the benefits of our chosen life in the here and now. Wednesday, August 13, 2014. It is what it is.
Verde Mama: July 2015
http://verdemama.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 27, 2015. July On the Fly (part I). As unschoolers we don't really differentiate between the "school year" and "summer break". We engage in learning year-round, but summer decidedly has a flavor of its own and we are savoring its deliciousness! So happy on her first day of horse camp. Final day of horse camp. We picked 10 pounds of blueberries. Feeding each other the "plumpiest ones". Wa Du Shuda parade. Friday, July 17, 2015. Followed by a picnic at the park. Then on to Olbrich Gardens.

Thursday, May 14, 2015. A day in which I was an awesome snuggle monkey. Some days we struggle. We have mis-starts, sibling squabbles, disagreements and plans that go awry, but yesterday was not one of those days. Yesterday had flow. And momentum. Yesterday was full and sparkly. Without being overwhelming. Days like that are worth celebrating, even in their ordinariness. Aaaah, yes. Snacking atop a train. Then, we stopped at a stream just out of town where Sylvia and Ayla like to go "clamming". After a tw...

Verde Mama: June 2014

Monday, June 23, 2014. My kids asked for a scavenger hunt one day. With 7 1/2 years between the oldest and the youngest, it's exciting to find activities that they all can enjoy together and this was a decided success. Camille took the photos, Sylvia marked off the categories, and Ayla used the magnifying glass to look closely at things. They worked together to find the items. Camille enjoyed helping me make collages for most of the categories. Some things fit into more than one category. They all played...
Verde Mama: March 2015
http://verdemama.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Part of what I love about creating this blog, and why I continue to do so (sporadically, I admit), is to remind myself that the little ordinary moments that make up our lives have value and beauty and joy. We are enough. We don't have to be spectacular or fancy or have huge shows of outward success to be living a life worth enjoying, sharing, and celebrating. Petting Fluff, the hen. A princess wiffle ball tournament. Strolling the bike trail with Grandma and Grandpa. What a diffe...

Saturday, November 29, 2014. So much to be thankful for. A couple more weeks of photos from our unschooling lives:. This painting started transforming from some really. Wild layers when Ayla told me, "It looks great, Mama. It just needs lots and lots of coca-dots.". My favorite new creative outlet, acrylic on canvas, almost finished. Midway through, right after the coca-dots). Mama, can we touch it? Wooden block pattern play. Watching the snow fall. Monsters transformed into flower faeries. We went to th...

The Mahogany Way - Motherhood :: Unschooling :: Knitting :: Autism
Motherhood : Unschooling : Knitting : Autism. August 10, 2015. I’ve had to find a new happy place since there are no beaches in Ohio…t he gardens and metro parks seem to be getting the job done. Not sure what I’m going to do in the winter when there’s a ton of snow on the ground. We visited Wegerzyn Gardens. In July. It’s free and so far we’ve only seen the Children’s Discovery Garden. Most of the pictures I have of myself are selfies, so it’s nice to have these. These two are my favorites. The lady I sp...
