1920s National Museum Cardiff. During October 2012, staff at National Museum Cardiff were cleaning the lower basement levels as part of a public health and safety evaluation. Opening a door into a small passageway they discovered a mysterious crate, labelled with the word Senghenydd on one side. A TREASURE TROVE OF DISCOVERIES. Highlights within the Crate include: evidence of archaeological digs in 1926. Photographs that led to the 2013 rediscovery of the Stoat Drawing.

1942, The Senghenydd Crate. As with the 1926 dig, Fox and his team carefully documented the find at Clegyr Boia through sketches and rudimentary photographic equipment. This image depicts the excavation in progress, once again documenting the characteristic trench technique Fox utilised during his excavations. Clegyr Boia Bone Fragment. Tumpo's Coat and Trowel.

1920s The Senghenydd Crate. In the bottom of the Crate was found a collection of 14 preserved ducklings in various states of repair. Approximately half of them appear intact, although some display unusual plummage. The remaining half are deep black in colour and appear to have been dipped in some form of shellac or thick paint. They didn't succeed. In the aftermath of the ritual, they were discovered by colleagues and the ducklings were confiscated.

1926 The Senghenydd Crate. Whilst excavating an unknown stone age site in South Wales, Sir Cyril Fox and his team discovered a large circular structure containing a number of bones. His team carefully documented this find using extensive sketches and rudimentary photographic equipment. This image depicts the Rigara remains within a narrow dig trench characteristic of Fox's method of excavation. In the background several archaeological implements are visible.

1930s The Senghenydd Crate. Amongst the finds of The Senghenydd Crate were a series of 14 small photographic images, mounted upon a thin piece of dark wood. These images appear to depict a variety of organic forms although the nature of the photographic techniques used and indeed the subject matter of these images remains a subject of intense debate.

Muse: to ponder, to meditate on; to study or reflect on; to wonder. Why Museum of Life? Monday, 28 October 2013. Looking Back on the "Year of Stories", Part 2 : The Power of a Truly Good Story.
