The Nerdy Teacher: The Epic Evernote Experiment

http://www.thenerdyteacher.com/p/the-epic-evernote-experiment.html

The Epic Evernote Experiment. I will be keeping a running journal of all things Evernote as I roll out a complete Evernote Environment in my classes that will be utilizing a class set of iPads. I'm excited to see where this takes me and I cannot wait to see how my students use Evernote. Stay tuned for more updated as I move closer to the school year. Post 1: It Begins. I've had plenty of requests to write about what I'm doing and I wanted to wait until I was all set before I wrote a post. I created four ...

The Nerdy Teacher: The Semicolon and The Nerdy Teacher #semicolonEDU #ProjectSemicolon

http://www.thenerdyteacher.com/2015/07/the-semicolon-and-nerdy-teacher.html

Friday, July 10, 2015. The Semicolon and The Nerdy Teacher #semicolonEDU #ProjectSemicolon. It's been a little over a year since I publicly talked. A few weeks ago, I came across Project Semicolon. What if they knew I battled the same demons they did? Ever since I came out about my battle with depression, I've committed myself to being more vocal in support of mental health issues. I've connected with so many people who have reached out to share their story it has helped me in my battle. Joe and I have t...

The Nerdy Teacher: The iTouch and iPad In The Classroom

http://www.thenerdyteacher.com/2010/05/itouch-and-ipad-in-classroom.html

Saturday, May 1, 2010. The iTouch and iPad In The Classroom. After messing around with it for a few hours, I was constantly thinking of all of the ways that this can be used in my classroom. Here are some of the ideas I came up with. I'm sure this will be a growing list and please feel free to comment and offer other ideas. I would love to have a class set of iPod Touches. The uses would be endless and my iPad would allow me to interact with all of my students at once. Here is what I'm thinking. I downlo...

The Nerdy Teacher: The Case for Change #EdChat

http://www.thenerdyteacher.com/2014/04/the-case-for-change-edchat.html

Thursday, April 17, 2014. The Case for Change #EdChat. It worked for the past ten years. Why change it now? I think many of us have heard this statement from colleagues over the years and I hope it drives you as batty as it drives me. For all of the teachers out there that refuse to update their lessons because they seem to "work", I have this to say, "It's not about you". April 17, 2014 at 10:54 AM. Hear that statement all the time and yes, it drives me batty as well. Great post! 2013 ISTE Teacher of th...

The Nerdy Teacher: The Forgotten Thank You #EdChat

http://www.thenerdyteacher.com/2013/12/the-forgotten-thank-you-edchat.html

Sunday, December 1, 2013. The Forgotten Thank You #EdChat. I wanted to spend a post thanking my students. Too often we look at students as "doing their job" by coming to school, but there are many things to be thankful for and I thought a post for my students would be a nice start. I will dedicated myself to thanking them on a regular basis at school because it is important to remember that we all liked to be thanked. For talking to me about something other than our curriculum. I love the books we re...

Reflections of the Siskiyou Union High School District presented by Superintendent: Mike Matheson. Monday, August 29, 2011. The educational experience must look and feel different for our students. We must lead the change by being willing to learn and be the seekers of new experiences for our students and ourselves. But I believe they are relevant to our educational organization):. 1 Deliver WOW experiences for all students. 2 Develop partnerships that support the learning experience. 8 Do more with less.

Every connection is an opportunity to learn. Today I am the learner. The future is now! Friday, November 25, 2011. I want to connect! Would I create a blog. Why would I spend time writing. Why would a principal need to do this? Globally, it is to our advantage to make as many connections as possible. By connecting with the world you create opportunities to learn. Check out the video below, " The Networked Student. And follow East Knox High School. On Twitter as well at @EKDogs. Posted by Ryan Gallwitz.

The Learner: Are we educating kids for life or for school?

http://ryangallwitz.blogspot.com/2011/12/are-we-educating-kids-for-life-or-for.html

Every connection is an opportunity to learn. Today I am the learner. The future is now! Saturday, December 10, 2011. Are we educating kids for life or for school? Are we educating kids for life or for school? I had the opportunity to attend the 21st Century Skills Ohio Summit 2.5. Yesterday and this question was a reoccurring theme that caught my attention. The hashtag for the event was #21oh11. The stream of comments provide significant insight even without available wifi. Some of the best include:.

SUHSD Reflections: Not Better - Different

http://suhsdreflections.blogspot.com/2012/02/not-better-different.html

Reflections of the Siskiyou Union High School District presented by Superintendent: Mike Matheson. Friday, February 3, 2012. Not Better - Different. In this TED video Will Richardson makes the point that it is time that we stop trying to do schools better and we start trying to do them differently. The problem with better is that better is measured or defined by the standardized test. It is time that we get very clear about what we want and need for our students, children, and future of education. Jeremy...

What We’re Reading. Not Buying a Book. May 17, 2013 / Miscellaneous Book Nerdery. This weekend I am not going to buy a book. That doesn’t seem like a big deal, does it? But to me it is. This is a conscious decision I’ve made, almost a resolution and there are reasons (yes, reasons plural) for it. I can’t tell you the last time a weekend passed where I didn’t end up at a bookstore. I feel like my book-buying has almost become compulsive, like if I don’t buy a book then what do I do with myself? They’re al...

Saturday, August 8, 2015. My family recently moved and were welcomed to our new home with a typhoon! Yes, a real-live typhoon. Our prepping was a little different than normal because we're in a new place, don't have a lot of supplies yet, and are limited by the location we're in. For example, canned goods are not a thing in Asia. They're just not. You can't go to the grocery store and buy canned green beans. You can buy ramen, but not beans. That's just how it is. Not really. Would it last a weekend?

Monday, 3 August 2015. Review: Songs for A New World. Songs for a New World. Often the 'Other' Jason Robert Brown musical (after the more famous 'The Last Five Years') has long been a favourite of mine (for those interested it's a hotly contested number one JRB slot with Parade). Songs For a New World has some fantastic pieces in it and this cast do it more than justice, they reshape it into something not new but something you wouldn't perhaps imagine of it. Breathing new life into a piece I thought ...

THE NERDY THEOLOGIAN | HONEST, REAL, AND SOMETIMES A LITTLE FUNNY

HONEST, REAL, AND SOMETIMES A LITTLE FUNNY. The Christian Manifesto Series. Current Issues and Theology. Racism, Evil, and Hope. Why Is The Trinity Important? Should A Woman Teach? This is where many pastors stop, and in so doing mare the text with their antiquated misunderstanding of the original language. In my mind, with texts like this the original language is where the pastor/theologian should be working, not from their English translation. Follow Jesus Not Your Heart. The Right Line of Questioning.
