The Open Road: Return of Good Reads: Robert B. Parker redux & requiem

http://theopenroad.blogspot.com/2011/01/return-of-good-reads-robert-b-parker.html

Not just politics or rock and roll or baseball or writing or modern existence. all of it. Sunday, January 02, 2011. Return of Good Reads: Robert B. Parker redux and requiem. I don’t generally do New Year’s resolutions. Let’s face it; in recorded history, what percentage of them has lasted beyond February 15th? But just for the sake of argument, let’s pretend I made some this year. Two of them would have been:. Read more, and write more. And so… off we go, yet again. Parker also successfully launched thre...

The Open Road: So, here's the thing: I wrote a book

http://theopenroad.blogspot.com/2011/10/so-heres-thing-i-wrote-book.html

Not just politics or rock and roll or baseball or writing or modern existence. all of it. Sunday, October 23, 2011. So, here's the thing: I wrote a book. Now, that headline probably doesn’t come as a huge surprise. As most who read this blog know, I’ve been writing non-fiction about music for 15 years now in the form of reviews and interviews for The Daily Vault; it was really only a matter of time before that became the nucleus for an attempt at fiction as well. The end result is Believe in Me. Oh, and ...

Not just politics or rock and roll or baseball or writing or modern existence. all of it. Friday, October 31, 2008. Proposition 8: The Ring-Bearer's Question. Yesterday I promised a more personal take. On this issue. Here it is. When the California Supreme Court handed down its decision affirming equal marriage rights this May, I took the opportunity to repost an op-ed piece of mine. That was published in the Sacramento Bee. And San Francisco Chronicle. 8220;Do you think Dave will ever get married? My so...

The Open Road: Good reads: "The horror... the horror..."

http://theopenroad.blogspot.com/2011/01/good-reads-horror-horror.html

Not just politics or rock and roll or baseball or writing or modern existence. all of it. Saturday, January 22, 2011. Good reads: "The horror. the horror.". After a long break from the genre, I read a couple of novels this past year that at least nominally fall into the horror category. As a teenager, my favorite author was Stephen King. ‘Salem’s Lot. Is not, strictly speaking, a horror novel, although a number of horrible things happen in it… it’s more like a mash-up of Our Town. And Lord of the Flies.

Sunday, April 8, 2012. Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson: The Daily Vault Interview. The Vault's own Bruce Rusk recently had the privilege of interviewing the man whose name has been synonymous with Jethro Tull for more than 40 years, renowned singer-songwriter-flautist-frontman Ian Anderson. Their interview was candid and revealing on many levels, offering Ian the platform to comment on subjects as varied as his reasons for composing a sequel to 1972's classic Thick As A Brick. Music Reviews: The Daily Vault: June 2011

http://dailyvault.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 18, 2011. The stars above just got a little brighter. Carpe diem. Don’t miss a chance to see the ones that really matter to you. That's the message I take from the sad news today that Clarence Clemons, sax player extraordinaire and the heart and soul of Bruce Springsteen. S E Street Band for forty years, has died. Clemons, who has battled back, knee and hip problems in recent years, suffered a massive stroke last week. Two memories to share:. In 2003 on The Rising. Posted by Jason Warburg.

Music Reviews: The Daily Vault: November 2011

http://dailyvault.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 23, 2011. Music blogs we’re thankful for. In the interest of demonstrating thankfulness (and being meta) it seemed appropriate to make our next blog post be about blogs. Specifically, two of the best music-focused blogs around, extremely well-written and engaging, albeit in very different ways. I Am Fuel, You Are Friends. Birthday of the jukebox. An indie band called The War on Drugs. And Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Posted by Jason Warburg. Saturday, November 5, 2011. Was among...

Music Reviews: The Daily Vault: January 2011

http://dailyvault.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 30, 2011. WTF: Fountains of Wayne. Today's WTF Moment comes courtesy of Fountains of Wayne. One of the most musically and lyrically brilliant bands of the past decade, with more pure musical talent packed into a single unit than the last 1,000 American Idol. Contestants combined, who have a new album completed and in the can but don't really know when it will come out because, ahem, THEY DON'T HAVE A RECORD DEAL. And following it up with the nearly-its-equal Traffic and Weather. Takes on ...
