Old motor in the Beacon funicular wheelhouse. Smut, mold, lichen, moss? Someone's lawn on 9D on the walk home. Various panorama shots from the summit of Mt. Beacon. Click to make bigger. Vaclav's Hovel: December 2011
http://vaclavshovel.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
All the stuff not allowed on my other blog. Sunday, December 18, 2011. The namesake for this website and many of my creative endeavors has passed on. Vaclav Havel had died. I made the name Vaclav's H o. Vel as a pun on his years ago to first hang over a sheep shed, and then used it as a company name on order forms as a joke. Since then it has come to mean what he symbolized for the world: if a playwright can overthrow communism in his country, why can't a girl sail around the world. My brother Pat's blog.

Paul and Jennifer renovate a place to call their own. Anyone may leave comments if they choose. Monday, July 23, 2012. Upstairs. In the summer. Hot! This first photo is of our upstairs hallway ceiling, taken from the stairwell with a wide-angle lens (just got my camera back from the shop). Awhile ago I straightened out the hole to the attic. Time to finish the ceiling and move on. First three furring strips installed. Time for dinner. More later. September 6, 2012 at 1:29 PM. Paragraph at at this place.

Renovating our house: Straightening Out
http://31vinestreetrenovation.blogspot.com/2012/05/straightening-out.html
Paul and Jennifer renovate a place to call their own. Anyone may leave comments if they choose. Sunday, May 13, 2012. I know this is a shitty old house and I shouldn't wet my pants every time something isn't square or true, but the hole that goes into the attic was pissing me off enough that I decided to fix it. I removed the ladder so I could stand in the hole on a steady ladder. Here one of the joists has been trimmed back already. There's the gap now that the frame for the ladder has been moved. My br...

Paul and Jennifer renovate a place to call their own. Anyone may leave comments if they choose. Sunday, May 22, 2011. Back To the Bedroom. I've been working my day job a lot lately, racing to finish a project with my colleagues. Weekends have been spent doing things like Mothers' Day, planting, killing zombies. When at last I had the house to myself and a day and half of vacation, I got back to work. Here I am about to put sheet rock into place on the closet. I have the piece in place, now let's cut it.

Renovating our house: November 2010
http://31vinestreetrenovation.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Paul and Jennifer renovate a place to call their own. Anyone may leave comments if they choose. Monday, November 22, 2010. Welcome To My Latest Nightmare. Open up the walls in an old house that has been hacked at over the years and you find bad stuff. This addition (about 8'x6') to the back of my house is one such example. I am asking my brother Pat for help in shoring up some of the problems here. Labels: kitchen back hall hack job oh shit. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My brother Pat's blog.

Paul and Jennifer renovate a place to call their own. Anyone may leave comments if they choose. Monday, July 5, 2010. An earlier post shows the garden shortly after planting. Here it is today. We've already gathered zukes and cukes, and tomatoes are not far behind. We got one hot pepper, too, but that was a fluke. The squash and pumpkin are out of control, and I fear the pumpkin will crowd a lot of stuff out. A butterfly on the butterfly bush! I don't know what kind it is. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Paul and Jennifer renovate a place to call their own. Anyone may leave comments if they choose. Saturday, July 30, 2011. I am no finish carpenter, and I don't have a great eye for detail or "the final product." But I get by. I nailed the boards to the back face of the door, put corner brackets, hinges, and handles on. Here's the first one in place. I use clamps to hold the door in place and also to put a spacer in at the bottom to show me where the bottom should rest. Labels: doors finish cupboard. I can...
