Les Estivales | the paris train
https://theparistrain.wordpress.com/2013/08/31/les-estivales
Life on the left bank. August 31, 2013. We went for a few days to Montpellier. We were in time to savour the Estivales de vendredi. These Friday night celebrations of summer begin in June and run throughout July and August. From early evening people wander into the Esplanade Charles de Gaulle, at first families with small children, later older couples, and gradually teenagers and young people, tanned and lovely, join the throng. And there was food! Sausages, mashed potato, charcuterie, mussels, chips.

Life on the left bank. July 23, 2014. Since our return friends have asked – did you hike? But no, we covered more terrain, quicker and dryer, on the Little Yellow Train. We had intended to have lunch there (breakfast in France, lunch in Spain! But who knew that our holiday in the mountains would take us to the heart of French cherry country – Ceret? And next door to le Boulou. The home of French cork production? We visited the Musee d’Art Moderne. Where the current exhibition is a celebration of art insp...

Life on the left bank. June 14, 2015. Jazz in the afternoon. To Paris from St Pancras. The photo above includes a trompe l’oeil aspect. Ever conscious that a blog needs to be updated regularly, but somehow having little time, here are a few images. The Jardin de Luxembourg. And if you find the right time you can stop for a coffee. Or listen to jazz on the bandstand. Then you leave and come home to jazz in the street. Next post →. On A Saturday Morning. On 13 novembre 2015. Cake Stories by Laur….

the paris train | life on the left bank
Life on the left bank. August 9, 2015. I am always surprised by Paris in August. It is so quiet. The shops shut, the restaurants roll down their shutters, and up go the signs. The streets are deserted, Monoprix is almost empty. But this year in August a lot has changed. For the first year parking in August is not free. Smoking in children’s playgrounds is now unlawful. Although the streets are empty apart from those of us who peer at our Paris street maps, on the river the tourist boats are full. On Satu...
