http://powerframe-rpg.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
An RPG designer's oddysey through various worlds and systems. Monday, 11 June 2012. In May and June 2012 I prepped some game material for a new Smallville campaign, set in a Renaissance Venice inspired fantasy city called Laguna. The title of the campaign comes from "piccola," Italian for "small", and Laguna, the name of the city. I'm sharing the resources here in case anyone has better luck than I! Some of them are incomplete, and have entries marked as "? I created a custom PiccoLaguna Pathways chart.

http://powerframe-rpg.blogspot.com/2015/06/powerframe-core-rulebook.html
An RPG designer's oddysey through various worlds and systems. Wednesday, 10 June 2015. The PowerFrame RPG Core Rulebook. Is now up for sale on DriveThruRPG! It's been a long journey, but I finally made it! Today I'm going to talk about the system's history, and look towards the future. I started writing the very first draft of PowerFrame. About nineteen years ago, I think. This isn't one of those "X years in the making" stories, though; I realise that's not a selling point! However, I soon realised that,...

The Game Mechanic: August 2012
http://powerframe-rpg.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
An RPG designer's oddysey through various worlds and systems. Wednesday, 29 August 2012. Human blood also fuels her vampiric powers, but doesn't automatically make her closer to becoming a full vampire. If she drinks from a human she needs to make a Willpower roll; if it fails, she'll keep drinking until she's full or they die. If she kills a human in this manner, she will gain another dedicated point of Vampire blood. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Its a bit of an unusual campaign, so I thought Id talk a b.

http://powerframe-rpg.blogspot.com/2015/05/powerframe-equipment.html
An RPG designer's oddysey through various worlds and systems. Monday, 25 May 2015. Only two more illustrations to go for PowerFrame. There was a bit of a lull in art production last week because I was working on a free introduction to the full rules. If you like what you see, please consider joining the Google Community. Now I'm back to working on the last few pieces, starting with some equipment. There's not a lot to say about equipment, really! The pictures above are from the Specialist Gear section wh...

An RPG designer's oddysey through various worlds and systems. Wednesday, 27 May 2015. Only one more picture to go for PowerFrame! It's going to be a fairly large and involved piece, though, and I still have a little bit of proof-reading and last-minute edits to do, but I'm still looking good for a June release! In the meantime, if you haven't seen it yet, please check out the free Rules Primer! This second-last picture is for the Ability Description section, illustrating the Tech Ability. Rather than hav...

The Game Mechanic: March 2012
http://powerframe-rpg.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
An RPG designer's oddysey through various worlds and systems. Monday, 26 March 2012. SamuraiVille Episode 0: Pathways. In March 2012 we ran through pathways for our first Smallville game - set in the Japanese Warring States period. This series of articles was originally posted in a thread on RPG.net. For this first (rather long) post, indented text is lifted straight from the original post, and regular text is me adding notes and context. The important thing to keep in mind is that Smallville pits charac...

An RPG designer's oddysey through various worlds and systems. Tuesday, 17 January 2012. Using powerful weapons and cunning hunting techniques, these individuals could chase off or even take down the great behemoths. A muscular engineer who wielded a great hammer. A shaman who preferred animals to people. A loud-mouthed letch who also tended to act as distraction and bait. Axehead, an apex predator on the jungle floor. Over the next several sessions, the hunters dealt with a growing village and personal p...

S Critical Hits chapter, and illustrates the "Push and Stun-Only" Critical Hit Table. This post, I'll summarise how Critical Hits work. Writers' Blocks: July 2013
http://writers-blocks-online.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Discussion of writing and role playing games. Reviews, rules, and more fun. Wednesday, July 31, 2013. A Quick Overview of Pathfinder Core Classes. Edition, which is cool. The monk was always meant to be a bad ass. #rd edition watered it down in the text. Here, in Pathfinder, the monk regains their martial prowess and seems more like the ancient warrior I expect them to be rather than the scholar warriors of 3. Edition. There is a difference and I certainly like this one much better. With my experience wi...
