Here are first impressions on the rookies:. Joe Veleno has mad skills. He will be able to step into a 'top nine' role right away. Cedric Pare is big and a strong skater - he looks a lot like Sam Dove-McFalls did in his rookie camp. Sam Leblanc is a "water bug.". Alex Kealey, Dawson Theede and Kallum Muirhead are very large lads.

He's never made any bones about his style being, for lack of a better word(s), 'old school'. He was a task-master and some believe that isn't conducive to today's junior player. For a team that may have been worried about losing two of their top players to the World Juniors and if they would stay in the playoff hunt without them, getting them back has been more of a challenge than anyone thought, losing four straight since Reinhart returned with the gold medal and Valiev returned with the silver, and missing three games due to illness.
