Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Waiting for the light. Friday is Winter Solstice. Hanukkah just ended. Advent continues. Christmas is coming. We have not needed the light so desperately as we do now in a great while. The darkness threatens to overtake us, and it feels futile to light a simple candle or sit in anticipation of the breaking dawn. My heart is heavy and broken. So what should my response be - as a parent, as a mental health professional, as a person of faith, as a human being? I will be an advo...

Random Ramblings: Turning Mountains into Molehills

http://theramblingpoet.blogspot.com/2012/10/turning-mountains-into-molehills.html

Friday, October 19, 2012. Turning Mountains into Molehills. National and Jr. High politics have me reeling this week, struggling to come to terms with how we as a social group or a culture or a nation, and how I as a human being, categorize and define values and issues and how I act on those categories and definitions. So this week I'm thinking about things like:. How I work to protect myself through accumulation of wealth instead of offering generous help? But it's hard to speak when it risks my safety&...

Struggling To Write: June 2014

http://www.strugglingtowrite.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

A place where I put whatever's on my mind! Jun 25, 2014. Serendipity, as defined by the online dictionary, is "an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident.". I like this word, I feel like it follows me around a lot. Or maybe I just pay attention more than some! I treasure the times when I can connect two people who don't know each other but share common ground. Especially when a new relationship takes off because of that connection I facilitated. Struggling To Write: Thought for the year

http://www.strugglingtowrite.com/2013/08/thought-for-year.html

A place where I put whatever's on my mind! Aug 28, 2013. Thought for the year. Facebook reveals who we are under our skins. And I don't like those people. Sayonara, Facebook. Postscript 9/21/13: I couldn't stand it. I felt isolated from knowing what my "circle" of friends and family was doing. I went back on. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Quotation of the Day. Struggling To Write: My Family Vacation to Great Wolf Lodge - Grapevine

http://www.strugglingtowrite.com/2013/09/my-family-vacation-to-great-wolf-lodge_4425.html

A place where I put whatever's on my mind! Sep 1, 2013. My Family Vacation to Great Wolf Lodge - Grapevine. A couple of years ago, my grandchildren spent a couple of days at the Great Wolf Lodge. No bigger positive impression has ever been made on my young granddaughter, she believes there is no place better on the face of the planet. The lazy river was NOT a hit with me, I had envisioned something much longer. Something more quiet, peaceful and relaxing? It's not relaxing to me to be floating on an inne...

Struggling To Write: August 2014

http://www.strugglingtowrite.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

A place where I put whatever's on my mind! Aug 14, 2014. I was 52 years old when I came home from a showing of the movie. And had my own epiphany moment. I was thinking of family dynamics and secrets. And how the wise witchy old women did actually know all that had happened. They just made choices about what they chose to acknowledge and what they didn’t. Doesn’t that turn my world on it’s head? What if she knew. Why hasn’t she ever asked me why can’t we just get along? How wicked is that? It just reinfo...

A place where I put whatever's on my mind! Aug 5, 2014. AT&T Home Phone Service. What do I think about AT&T Home Phone service. On’t buy it. It’s not worth the contract they get you to sign in order to get the price down. Here’s my story. Two year contract, 6 months in, and the dang device breaks. I don’t think that’s going to be a big deal. Now, 1 and 1/2 weeks later, I learn it IS a big deal. AT&T. I've had for 20 years and not communicate a phone change to friends and family. Hook it up,. Struggling To Write: Love Letter to Tervis

http://www.strugglingtowrite.com/2013/10/love-letter-to-tervis_7.html

A place where I put whatever's on my mind! Oct 7, 2013. Love Letter to Tervis. Last June I fell in love with water again thanks to the discovery of your 24 oz water bottle. It was a chance meeting, I was not looking for it but stumbled across the bottle in Academy Sports. I didn't let the fact he was wearing a sports motif sway me from noticing the fine lines and tight fitting lid. So I took him home with me. His wide mouth allowed me to fill him with ice to keep my water cold on hot Texas days. Even...

Struggling To Write: August 2012

http://www.strugglingtowrite.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

A place where I put whatever's on my mind! Aug 22, 2012. I've often read in novels about people who are cold or empty or unfeeling. The characters always seemed a bit unreal to me, and if not extremely well written I would be aware that the author was trying to manipulate my feelings about that character. Doesn't it bother you? Aug 21, 2012. A Day of Firsts. So close to a major milestone birthday, and still getting to experience "first time ever" events. How about that! Life's a ride, that's for sure.

Thursday, 24 July 2014. So this summer I have made a conscious decision that I am going to do something with my boys every day. I work from home so in theory should be able to plan my hour around the kids - that was the idea. Freelance - be my own boss. Ha, I have never worked so hard. Last summer, I declared I would work mornings, and do something every afternoon. Feel better that we had done something. Today I hope is the start of a new era - I was at my computer by 6.00am, I've done a few hours wo...

Friday, 14 August 2015. Pizza Delivery By Plane? In the vein of "interesting but still funny news" I discovered last night that some remote Caribbean islands can now have pizza delivered to them, and by a plane no less. It's one of those stories you find yourself thinking "Please be true" and then you're delighted when it is. Because it's awesome. Been a while since I've had a pizza. Humans are awesome like that. My thoughts, here and there. Ideas and perceptions that could be fair or unfair. May 3, 2015. The tree seemingly trying to reach out to the sun before it sets. 8220;I see you everyday and the next thing I know, I was already in love with you. All I can think about is that smile you cast upon me so brightly. They told me it was a fruitless endeavor to chase the unattainable. But I never listened, never cared. Because surely, if a love is so strong it can attain anything it desired? February 18, 2014.

Wednesday, January 20, 2010. How is a suicidee a coward? How is his decision "escaping" reality? How is it pathetic? Isn't it just plain sad? Shouldn't we shed a tear at least after they are dead and gone? Don't they deserve that? Even if they don't deserve it-say it was the guilty conscience of a child molester-shouldn't we force some sympathy out any which way? What you have waited and waited and waited for things to change or get better but they just don't seem to? Why is it considered a moral crime?
