You’re Wrong…and It’s a Good Thing | Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less)
https://mcalpin.wordpress.com/2013/12/06/youre-wrong-and-its-a-good-thing
Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less). Read it while you're waiting. So….why should I listen to this guy? You’re Wrong…and It’s a Good Thing. We all want progress, but if you’re on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive. – C.S. Lewis –. When was the last time you admitted you were wrong? On the other hand, when you are wrong, and accept that you are wrong. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You are c...

What’s Your Medium? | Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less)
https://mcalpin.wordpress.com/2013/12/13/whats-your-medium
Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less). Read it while you're waiting. So….why should I listen to this guy? What’s Your Medium? How do you EFFECTIVELY communicate to your co-workers, employees, family, and friends? Lincoln’s utilization of the telegraph revolutionized the communication world, and allowed for greater lines of communication to be opened, which allowed for more direct, and immediate, conversations with his field personnel. What is your medium for communication? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You are...

Don’t Crap on the Others | Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less)
https://mcalpin.wordpress.com/2013/12/20/dont-crap-on-the-others
Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less). Read it while you're waiting. So….why should I listen to this guy? Don’t Crap on the Others. I recently read about a term, Seagull Management, that describes certain leaders, or managers. Seagull Management refers to the manager that shows up in a department, unrelated to his/her own area of expertise, throws their weight around, “craps” on everything and then leaves the damage for everyone else to clean up. Do you ever find yourself guilty of this type of leadership?

Let it Go | Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less)
https://mcalpin.wordpress.com/2014/01/03/let-it-go
Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less). Read it while you're waiting. So….why should I listen to this guy? As a leader, we have the tendency to want to control everything. It’s because our livelihood is dependent upon the performance of others, and if we don’t control those people, then we are doomed to fail…right? The best leaders I’ve ever met have let me fail more times than I can count. It’s because of these failures that I am now succeeding…more often than not, anyway. Have you given up control lately?

Manage vs. Lead | Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less)
https://mcalpin.wordpress.com/2013/11/22/manage-vs-lead
Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less). Read it while you're waiting. So….why should I listen to this guy? Manage vs. Lead. Are you a Manager, or a Leader? What’s the difference? Maybe you are both, in some capacity? I’ve always been inclined to believe that Managers organize people. Leaders motivate people. I’m still learning, and messing up, and learning, and adjusting, and learning some more about how to be an effective Leader, and Manager. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less). Read it while you're waiting. So….why should I listen to this guy? What was the last time that you took the time to learn something new? Something that you had previously thought a different way about, but were educated otherwise? How did that make you feel? Did you accept the fact that you were wrong, and that it was okay to learn, even though you are supposed to be leading? Were you challenged by this new-found concept? What have you learned lately? Next post →. Leade...

Things I Did Growing Up That Would Never Fly Now | Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less)

Leadership in 5 Minutes (or Less). Read it while you're waiting. So….why should I listen to this guy? Things I Did Growing Up That Would Never Fly Now. There is no shortage of blog posts, or Facebook rants, about what the 70s, 80s, and 90s kids did that is different than today’s kids. These posts always make me smile, because I see myself lecturing. It was the norm, and that’s ok by me. In all fairness, this still happens today…the clothes just don’t look as funny. Bike without a helmet: GASP…the t...
