I forgot to mention that in the day-hole at Wentworth the pit props, owing to the damp, had a strange fungi exactly like cotton wool growing on them. If you touched them they went all to nothing, leaving a nasty smell. It appears that a Lancashire miner, instead of slinging his lamp round his neck, has a band above the elbow and hangs the lamp from that. Has not printed my letter re. Mosley. Road to Wigan Pier.

I think the dirtiest interiors I see, more than any of the various kinds of squalor the piles of unwashed crocks, the scraps of miscellaneous food all over the lino-topped table, the dreadful rag mats with the crumbs of years trodden into them the things that oppress me most are the scraps of newspaper that are scattered all over the floor. Returning to Leeds tomorrow, then on to London on Monday [30 March].

What I believe…. 8th May, 2015. I wrote this several years ago to respond to critics on a Detroit News Opinion page post. Still true…. Ending unique DNA, living humanoid tissue in a gestational stage is wrong. But it is law, and as such, I have little personal sway on the matter. The rise in government spending is the issue, not taxation. And it’s not even close. Government run health care is a bad idea. They do so little right, and this is to important for an agency other that yourself to get wrong.

The road to winter. February 13, 2015. March 17, 2015. I don’t know where to start with this so I guess I’ll start at the beginning. Reading back over my last few posts I can see I was starting to fall. At the time though I didn’t recognise the signs. How could I not? They were almost the same as before. Only this time it seemed to happen much quicker. My drinking had been steadily increasing, ‘controlled’ I told myself. What is controlled about cracking open a can at 8am? That was my cue. My trigger.
