The Tower of Infinite Evil: Spellcasters, Spellslots, and Quadratic Wizards
http://tower-of-infinite-evil.blogspot.com/2012/07/spellcasters-spellslots-and-quadratic.html
Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Spellcasters, Spellslots, and Quadratic Wizards. Archmages don't bother with puny magic missiles. One of the thing that irks me about D&D Next is the bizarre spell slot system. Not that it exists, because it seemed to function just fine in earlier editions of D&D. No, what grinds my gears is the idea of applying the Heightened Spell feat. In some way) to every caster class. This is one issue of the idea of quadratic wizards: as they gain levels, not only do they gain the ability...

The Tower of Infinite Evil: Being Human in D&D
http://tower-of-infinite-evil.blogspot.com/2012/04/being-human-in-d.html
Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Being Human in D&D. Now, reclusiveness and rarity might be one explaination, but I'd like to focus on the mechanics of it for now. I don't want to claim that level limits are a good way to marry the rarity of non-human races with the rules either. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Elemental Magic of Zakhara. The Tower of Infinite Evil: Races for different flavors of fantasy
http://tower-of-infinite-evil.blogspot.com/2012/05/races-for-different-flavors-of-fantasy.html
Friday, May 11, 2012. Races for different flavors of fantasy. D&D has always emulated Tolkien's fantasy, for the most part. Elves (of many different sub-species), dwarves,. Halflings and men fight against goblins and orcs and trolls. Tolkien emulation isn't bad in and of itself: there's probably a reason that this stuff is so iconic. The Men of D&D 3.5. Assume that the basic game has your standard selection of races:. Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Half Elf, Halfling, Half Orc, and Human. Maybe a setting can get by ...

The Tower of Infinite Evil: Curse of Strahd: Actual Play 7—Final Session
http://tower-of-infinite-evil.blogspot.com/2016/07/curse-of-strahd-actual-play-7final.html
Wednesday, July 6, 2016. Curse of Strahd: Actual Play 7—Final Session. We finished Strahd today. It was pretty epic. Rahadin enters after, mutilating the swashbuckler who was hiding from Strahd behind the tomb, hitting with 3 attacks (one a crit) and dealing his crazy psychic damage. Again the paladin comes in and murderizes, doing just enough damage to drop Rahadin before he gets a chance to act again which would have done psychic damage to 4 of the heroes plus getting 3 scimitar attacks in. Playing D&D...

The Tower of Infinite Evil: Alignment Redux
http://tower-of-infinite-evil.blogspot.com/2016/07/alignment-redux.html
Monday, July 11, 2016. After listening to the Antagonist's latest podrambling. I had a few reactions to their comments on the problem of alignment (I'm going to keep this alignment-focused). I see the point of their discussion, but feel the two of them were talking a bit across one another. Basically, I see a combination of two problems with alignment, both of them coming in at the point where people have different underlying assumptions about the game. Where I stole the show with derro fetal savants.

The Tower of Infinite Evil: Race and Cognition in D&D
http://tower-of-infinite-evil.blogspot.com/2012/05/race-and-cognition-in-d.html
Monday, May 14, 2012. Race and Cognition in D&D. In D&D, races have always represented a combination of species and culture. I'll ignore any ideas of racism. Here, but it is 100% conceivable that a non-human sentient race would have different mental, physical, and cultural characteristics when compared to humans. So should elves have a bonus to using longswords or bows? Should dwarves all speak dwarven? Should all half-orcs be poor leaders? I'd like to argue that this is an option that one should consider.

The Tower of Infinite Evil: Hints of abandoned sub-classes in the 5e Player's Handbook?
http://tower-of-infinite-evil.blogspot.com/2016/07/hints-of-abandoned-sub-classes-in-5e.html
Sunday, July 3, 2016. Hints of abandoned sub-classes in the 5e Player's Handbook? 1), gust of wind. 3) to solidify the storm theme with spells that are thematic but you just don't have room for in your build). 1), hunter's mark. 1), find steed. 2), elemental weapon. 3), fire shield. 4), locate creature. What's odd here is that the battlerager was clearly forseen and released in the SCAG where it maybe belongs (really wish they had just renamed the class berserker. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
