http://verbmall.blogspot.com/2015/08/advance-or-advanced.html
A blog about the English language. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. I’ve seen a number of notices recently that misuse the word advanced. Here’s an example from a physician’s office: If you know that you are going to miss a medical appointment, please give at least a 24-hour advanced notice. That should have been advance. Viewed side by side, advance warning is given before a crisis occurs; an advanced warning would be highly sophisticated perhaps a holographic image projected into the sky. Advance warfare ...

Wordmall: Underdog or Underduck?
http://verbmall.blogspot.com/2015/05/underdog-or-underduck.html
A blog about the English language. Friday, May 22, 2015. The pusher runs under the swing and then lets go. Loveda calls it underdog. The relative from Ohio calls it underduck. We’re definitely in the realm of regionalisms here. Which one is correct? I’m not going to commit to either without definitive evidence....

http://verbmall.blogspot.com/2015/06/spelling-vs-pronunciation.html
A blog about the English language. Sunday, June 14, 2015. Spelling vs. Pronunciation. Casey from Gaylord asked why some words are spelled one way, but pronounced another. He used the word colonel as an example. Also, in the 18. Century, poet John Dryden and his friends, ashamed of the degenerated English language, went into a Latinizing frenzy. If a word had originally come from Latin, they reasoned, it should be spelled in a way that gave homage to that heritage. So we ended up with the illogica...And c...
