Mildura 2 Lima: Feliz Año Nuevo.
http://mildura2lima.blogspot.com/2009/01/feliz-ao-nuevo.html
Thursday, January 1, 2009. Feliz Año Nuevo – Happy New Year. The local people told us that if we thought celebrating the arrival of Christmas Day was rowdy just wait and see what happens when New Years Day ticks over. I honestly believed the house rattled every now and then! Looking down our road, please forgive the poor camera focus, it may have something to do with a shaking hand every time another 'bomb' exploded, however, you get a good idea of what was happening. Same view next morning. Luke and Mar...

Mildura 2 Lima: September 2008
http://mildura2lima.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 29, 2008. Bienvenidos Monseñor Pedro Connors. The people of this area gave a fantastic welcome to Bishop Peter Connors over the weekend in the form of two concerts. On Saturday they came from all sections of the Parish boundaries to sing, dance, wave their specially made banners and flags and they even managed to coax some old members of the audience to get up and dance! We had two renditions of the Marinera, a traditional courting dance. First the nervous preparations…. Whatever happen...

Mildura 2 Lima: August 2008
http://mildura2lima.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 31, 2008. This is not an open grave! First of all find a suitable spot and dig yourself an inspection pit, it is far easier welding standing up! The white powder you can see is used as a form of flux while welding. The concrete blocks are a constant reminder of the terrorist times. They were placed to try and protect the electricity supply. One of the favourite tricks of the Shining Path was to destabilise the area by causing massive blackouts. Luke and Marion Guthrie. Santa Rosa Feast Day.

Mildura 2 Lima: It's all over!
http://mildura2lima.blogspot.com/2009/01/its-all-over.html
Tuesday, January 13, 2009. The year is completed, and what a year it has been! Marco drove us to the airport on Wednesday evening and his wife and daughter, Yolanda and Trini, accompanied us in order for them to say a final goodbye. We were joined there by more of our special friends and I can assure you this did not help one bit when the time finally came to say goodbye to everyone! Now for a belated Christmas celebration with our family - and that will be fun. Luke and Marion Guthrie. The final pack up.

Saturday, November 29, 2008. More of Martin's paintings. We learnt very quickly that when travelling on buses make sure your window is closed! This painting of thirteen niños, children, shows many different poses, costumes and colours. The child at the top of the painting is even offering the humming bird a flower. He has also included the Andes, farming terraces and Inca walls. Luke and Marion Guthrie. Friday, November 28, 2008. Set all this up on your motorised trolley and away you go. Kate and Gerry P...

Mildura 2 Lima: May 2008
http://mildura2lima.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 28, 2008. A visit to the jail. Yesterday Marion and I went with Sister Marg Malady to visit the prisoners she teaches English to in the Miguel Castro Castro Penal Maximum Security. Prior to that we had to wait a number of weeks for our request to visit the jail to be processed and granted. After about ninety minutes we shared a cup of coffee with a few and listened to an unbelievable classical guitarist. As Alex and his friends escorted us to the last gate they are allowed to approach we p...

Mildura 2 Lima: July 2008
http://mildura2lima.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 28, 2008. The 26th of July celebrations. Until then you just have to wait! Luke and Marion Guthrie. The Motupe parish bingo fundraiser. A big day in the life of the Motupa parish. I have quickly come to the conclusion that Catholic parish fundraisers seem to be the same all over the world. The Motupe parish held theirs last Sunday and there was a remarkable similarity between our Catholic primary schools White Elephant Sale back home. The guinea pig 'hunt' was fun for all ages. I simply had ...
