Story #6: Casting the Runes by M. R. James | The Short Story Club
https://theshortstoryclub.wordpress.com/2015/02/06/story-6-casting-the-runes-by-m-r-james
The Short Story Club. Story #6: Casting the Runes by M. R. James. February 6, 2015. February 6, 2015. It’s hard to pick just one from M.R. James, the undisputed master of the modern ghost story. But let’s say this one, perhaps the most likely to disturb your dreams or at least your relationship with your pillow. Second choice: Oh, Whistle and I’ll Come to You, Lad, featuring, among other things, one of the greatest horror story titles ever written. Read it here. Story #5: The Landlady by Roald Dahl.
Story #10: The Semplica-Girl Diaries by George Saunders | The Short Story Club

The Short Story Club. Story #10: The Semplica-Girl Diaries by George Saunders. July 20, 2015. First we have a new list as an additional list that we can pick stories from: 13 short stories with shocking twist. It’s Tolu’s choice this week and I persuaded him to pick The Semplica-Girl Diaries by George Saunders. Since I just happened to read it recently, and that it is a nice follow up from our previous story. As they’re both written in diary format, and both published in the New Yorker. 8211; WE read this.

Meeting was in Word, just a few steps away from our office, which has now become my favorite place for lunch time work. Thanks to SSC! Story #7: A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O’Connor. The Short Story Club. Story #11: The Signal-Man by Charles Dickens. August 11, 2015. August 18, 2015. This story was picked by Sam, as he apparently has read many Dickens books! Albeit in Farsi) I have read Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol, and unfortunately I’m not quite a fan of Dickens, so I approached the story with trepidation. I wasn’t so far off, as the story was exactly like the Dickens I’ve read. Sam liked it so he rated it higher (4/5) while Tolu and I kept it low at 3/5. July 20, 2015.
Story #9: The Other Place by Mary Gaitskill | The Short Story Club

The Short Story Club. Story #9: The Other Place by Mary Gaitskill. June 4, 2015. The Other Place by Mary Gaitskill is the most recently published story we’ve read so far for this club. Published in 2011 by the New Yorker ( read here. It is “about a father who sees his own fantasies about murdering women in his son, is a real horror story for 2014.” (Flavorwire). Ps: Meetup was at the Vietnamese sandwich place next to Bodean. I loved the Bahn mi! Story #8: The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce. Notify me o...

Literary Escapade
Wednesday, October 8, 2008. In modern democratic societies, there is no value in censorship. Do you agree? As mentioned, the above arguments resonate across many modern democracies around the world. However, we must not simply send censorship to the noose, for it still plays a vital role in many modern democracies in the world due to the evolution of multi-cultural societies, globalization, and modern technological advances. Posted by mystory @ 10:06 AM. Friday, September 19, 2008. I gaze at your picture;.

See you there, p'raps? Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Strolling Storylines: The Proustian Pleasures of Walking Whilst Listening to Short Stories. Nicholas Royle has blogged recently. The Short Story Reading Challenge
The Short Story Reading Challenge. Friday, September 24, 2010. The First Person and Other Stories - Ali Smith. I like how most of the stories feel like they could actually have happened in Smith’s real life. She is excellent at blending reality with fantasy. Unfortunately they didn’t grab me as much of some of her other collections and stories so I wouldn’t recommend this for your first dip into Ali Smith’s world. Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Fragile Things - Neil Gaiman. Monday, August 9, 2010. Unfortuna...

The Old Stair Well. Author: Jenn Posted under: Fiction. The old stair well was dark and cold. On the way up, each board would creak and moan. The hairs on my skin would stand up tall and my mind thought things I should not know. At the top, there was a door—turn the knob and the fear was gone. The knob a bit tight, and yet it did turn and gave way to the sight of the old room. The cob webs have grown. The reds, blues, and greens are now dull, and the toys and books are all but gone. An old...

The Short Story, Long
Tuesday, December 14, 2010. My mind is full, and I am heavy with disquiet, but this I will say: the writing is exquisite and entangling and engrossing; the characters baffling, beyond understanding, beyond knowing; the imagery - oh! Reminding me without preamble how, even as a child, I loved the vast, flat plains of Oklahoma. Well it's complicated, see? I can't remember when I've had to concentrate - to work. So hard to simply understand a book. Okay, so there are a whole bunch of sections, right? Before...

Short Stories to feed the mind. Wednesday Prompt Smash: Constant Lawn Mowers. Prompt: Constant Lawn Mowers. Word Limit: 300 words. Rina was casually strolling down the street, groceries in hand. Strolling along with not a care in a world she missed seeing the walk signal changing to no walk. Tires screech* *slamming sound*. Miss, miss are you ok? We’re losing her,.
