http://short-list.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Pop Cultural Ramblings on Books, Music, and Movies. Monday, May 31, 2010. Fiction Mondays: The Manual of Detection. Sorry for the unannounced week off- I had several story deadlines the Friday before last, and my brain melted for an entire week after. Plus, I'm getting ready to move, so that's keeping me pretty busy. Finding an apartment is HARD. The book is divided up into chapters from the Manual of Detection. That's all I've got for today. Enjoy the long weekend. Friday, May 21, 2010. Failed: the char...

The Short List: Fiction Mondays: The Lacuna
http://short-list.blogspot.com/2010/08/fiction-mondays-lacuna.html
Pop Cultural Ramblings on Books, Music, and Movies. Monday, August 9, 2010. Fiction Mondays: The Lacuna. I'd never read Barbara Kingsolver before (even though The Poisonwood Bible. Is supposed to be excellent), but when I heard about her most recent novel The Lacuna. It sounded like something I had to check out. I originally bought it as a Christmas present for my girlfriend, who is a big fan of Frida Kahlo, a major character in the book, and she raved about it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Short List: Friday Films: "In Bruges," or, The Importance of Knowing What Kind of Movie You're Making
http://short-list.blogspot.com/2010/08/friday-films-in-bruges-or-importance-of.html
Pop Cultural Ramblings on Books, Music, and Movies. Friday, August 20, 2010. Friday Films: "In Bruges," or, The Importance of Knowing What Kind of Movie You're Making. This week, I watched In Bruges. I enjoy dark comedy, and I think crime comedy is a great niche that hasn't been done to death. Big Deal on Madonna Street. Even Guy Richie's first two movies, Snatch. And Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Movies run on this concept. The fact that the end of the movie is pretty much an action movie bloodba...

http://short-list.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Pop Cultural Ramblings on Books, Music, and Movies. Sunday, January 31, 2010. Fiction Mondays: Getting Back to Short Stories. The past few months, I haven't worked on short stories at all. I've been working on everything else, and the whole time I've missed the format and the challenge of short stories. I haven't sent much out, haven't revisited anything I worked on and set aside. That's all over now. Friday, January 29, 2010. Friday Films: Getting Lost. This Tuesday, ABC's "LOST" returns for its final s...

http://short-list.blogspot.com/2010/08/musical-wednesdays-broken-hearts-and.html
Pop Cultural Ramblings on Books, Music, and Movies. Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Musical Wednesdays: Broken Hearts and Dirty Windows. I will preface today's post by saying this: John Prine is awesome. His songs are so good that Kris Kristofferson said they (other country and folk songwriters) would have to break his thumbs. He co-wrote the " perfect country and western song. This summer, a John Prine tribute album, Broken Hearts and Dirty Windows. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow Me on Twitter.

The Short List: July 2010
http://short-list.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Pop Cultural Ramblings on Books, Music, and Movies. Friday, July 30, 2010. Friday Films: Some Thoughts on "Repulsion". This week, I watched Roman Polanski's Repulsion. A horror movie about a young woman left alone who loses her mind. I would never argue that Polanski isn't a great director, and I think he excels at horror. Whether it's Repulsion. Or Knife in the Water. But regardless, Repulsion. Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Musical Wednesdays: A White House Tribute to Paul McCartney. A concert celebrating P...

Pop Cultural Ramblings on Books, Music, and Movies. Wednesday, August 25, 2010. Musical Wednesdays: We Are Sex Bob-Omb! The bands that populate Brian Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim. For a film adaptation, translating the experience of "reading the band" into hearing it can be a tough trick to pull off. The worst reaction, I would imagine, would be for the fans to say "that doesn't sound like Sex Bob-Omb." Luckily, Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World sounds. Or one of Wes Anderson's. We get hints of ...
