A New Yorker Living in Nairobi. Published on January 2, 2017. 3 Most Influential Books for Me in 2016. In a prior post. I wrote about wanting to read more about Africa and more books by African authors. I did just that, and those three books that delved into that area proved to be the three most influential for me. As you can see from the diagram above, this came about in three different ways:. An American author writing about Africa (Kenya mostly). An African author writing about Africa (South Africa).

A New Yorker Living in Nairobi. All posts filed under: Kitchen Adventures. I did a bit of traveling on Friday. I went from way up north in Kitisuru down south to Junction, all to get some culture. SCOBY culture, that is. SCOBY stands for symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast. Sounds really nice, right? Why on earth would I want this thing? So I went down …. October 12, 2015. A New Yorker Living in Nairobi. Published on January 11, 2017. For our Christmas holiday we chose to stay at the Mbweha Camp. The camp borders against Lake Nakuru National Park, so you are right by the park but not in it (read: park fees only for when you go to the park). The camp itself is a small camp with handful of cottages so it’s nice and cozy. The grounds are small but nice. There is a pool not a lap pool, more for relaxing. The lobby/lounge area is open (still covered) and airy ...Service was goo...

A New Yorker Living in Nairobi. Published on January 6, 2016. Christmas on Mount Kenya. We spent Christmas outdoors on the beautiful slopes of Mount Kenya. We drove out to Mount Kenya National Park and Reserve. And entered through the Sirimon gate. From there, we parked at Camp Moses and then hiked around a bit. We then headed back down, ate a picnic lunch at Camp Moses, and headed back. We timed it just right. It was clear and sunny that morning. We left just as the rains came in. Enter your comment here.

A New Yorker Living in Nairobi. The Awkwardness of Saying Hello. I have friend back home. Let’s call her Kelly*. Kelly is originally from California. Kelly is a hugger. I am a New Yorker. I don’t touch people. I do hug some people, close friends and family. Kelly is now a very good friend. I’ve accepted her cultural values of greeting people by West Coast Make Out Hug. Little did I know that this would be good practice for me. As an expat, you are surrounded by other expats as well as locals. You hav...
