aussie new yorker: "You Aussies..."
http://aussienewyorker.blogspot.com/2013/01/you-aussies.html
Saturday, January 12, 2013. As I return to New York from a blazing summer in Australia with bushfires burning out of control across much of Tasmania and NSW, I ask myself, what is it about Australia and Australians that is so hard for Americans to work out? Is it because we are from "down under" and that seems so remote that we must be a different species? Or is it because we have weird animals that hop instead of run, using their tail for balance? Is it our accents? Jealousy of our beaches? They sleep a...

Saturday, July 28, 2012. The Anesthetist and I were supposed to be in Nantucket by now, home of Moby Dick, briar rose-covered cottages and long, wonderful beaches. But Delta decided to cancel our flight this morning for no reason! So now I have another day to learn the whaling history of this fascinating island. Stay tuned. Links to this post. Sunday, July 22, 2012. The men made dinner one night. Gotta love the preparation they put into it. The presentation looks like a still life! Links to this post.

aussie new yorker: August 2012

Wednesday, August 22, 2012. In the Garden of Eden. Is a network of six wonderful historic homes in the Hudson Valley. Its mission is to "celebrate the history, architecture, landscape and the material culture of the Hudson Valley", making sure people like me get to see how the other half lived all those years ago. Last weekend, the Anesthetist decided I was in need of some historical American culture, so he took me to visit Montgomery Place. First glimpse of the house. One of many fish ponds. I went for ...

aussie new yorker: February 2013
http://aussienewyorker.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 17, 2013. I am a downtown girl. No ifs and buts about it. I prefer the low key vibe and village atmosphere. But I have to admit that every now and then there is a teeny bit of Upper East Side in me as well. And when this side of me wants to come out, I head straight to a New York icon; Bemelman's Bar at the Carlyle Hotel on 76th Street. Wednesday, September 26, 2012. I really wanted to go with him to the Synagogue tonight so I could hear the Shofar being blown. The Rabbis used to blow a ram's horn but now it could be made of any material. It has a wonderful history that you can read about here. Links to this post. Wednesday, September 19, 2012. aussie new yorker: Optimism
http://aussienewyorker.blogspot.com/2012/10/optimism.html
Sunday, October 21, 2012. I'm not sure how that plays out nationally. I'm guessing New Yorkers' upbeat outlook is substantially higher than say those who live in Detroit or Baton Rouge, mainly because the economy here has shown some potential for growth. But I think it does mirror how outsiders see Americans, as a tirelessly upbeat, happy, positive nation of people. I have always been intrigued by this global perception. Is it true or is it a facade? It makes you feel good about everything you are and do.

Ok I have been living in this city for nearly five years now - when do I become considered a New Yorker? And yet, we all continue to use it. In fact, on average, more than 5.2 million people use it on a week day according to the MTA figures. Out of necessity? Links to this post. Friday, June 15, 2012. If you are...

Seraph Splendor: The Early Years. Wednesday, February 19, 2014. This got us to pondering where it all began, what cosmic conjunction caused our descent into design and decoration and made us the arbiters. er, abattoirs of taste that we are today? Well, this quite covers the formative years of Splendor's descent into decorating. The next chapters shall include the era that is commonly referred to as “The Metal Years”. but that, dear readers, is a story for another day indeed. And neigh like Boanerges;.
