In order to film a great movie about race car driving, director John Frankenheimer and his team had to develop new ways of mounting cameras, obtaining steady shots, and following action at very high speeds. The Superfluity: Movie Guy: AFI Countdown 15 to 11

http://thesuperfluity.blogspot.com/2014/07/movie-guy-afi-countdown-15-to-11.html

Sunday, July 13, 2014. Movie Guy: AFI Countdown 15 to 11. 2001: A Space Odyssey. Hitchcock had to shoot this film on a very tight budget, because studio executives were opposed to the idea of dramatizing Robert Bloch's novel about a deranged serial killer. They would not give him his usual budget. He had to fight with the censors over the violence and sexuality, as well. (Amazingly tame by today's standards, though, of course.) However, it all paid off as Psycho. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I am ...

The Superfluity: Movie Guy: AFI Countdown 30 to 26

http://thesuperfluity.blogspot.com/2014/07/movie-guy-afi-countdown-30-to-26.html

Thursday, July 10, 2014. Movie Guy: AFI Countdown 30 to 26. I consider each of the five movies in this entry to be must-see films: Coppola pulls a masterpiece out of a mess, Wilder gives us one of the better noir thrillers ever made, Mankiewicz presents a perfectly witchy Bette Davis vehicle, Zinneman presses us toward a literal deadline in the Old West, and Capra lifts us above the corruption of the political machine. Should I laugh now, or wait 'til it gets funny? Mr Smith Goes to Washington. I am just...

The Superfluity: Remembering James Garner, Part 2

http://thesuperfluity.blogspot.com/2014/07/remembering-james-garner-part-2.html

Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Remembering James Garner, Part 2. I'm not sure how long I've considered James Garner my favorite actor. I think my very first favorite actor was Chewbacca, and that was before I realized it was a guy in a hairy suit. From that point forward as a kid, I think my favorite actor was whoever was the star of my favorite TV show of the moment, so sometimes it was a cartoon. I was aware of The Rockford Files. This was particularly evident when we rented Victor/Victoria. He admits that he...

The Superfluity: Movie Guy: AFI Countdown Follow-Up

http://thesuperfluity.blogspot.com/2014/07/movie-guy-afi-countdown-follow-up.html

Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Movie Guy: AFI Countdown Follow-Up. Okay, as promised, I'm going to offer up some alternatives to a few of the films from the AFI 100 that I, personally, think are a bit (or a lot) overrated. Now, I could just add in another couple of Marx Bros. movies or another Buster Keaton. I could simply put From Here to Eternity. Or The Third Man. Working from the bottom up, I'll start with Bringing Up Baby. In the genre of screwball comedies, you just can't beat His Girl Friday. Would be ...

The Superfluous Man

Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Take it like a man, again. Been a while. Busy year. Actually do have stuff still in progress for this blog, believe it or not. When Meghan Murphy is at least as marginalized, reviled, and rejected within the feminist movement as Cathy Young, I will listen to claims that actual existing feminism is not a bigoted anti-male movement without bursting into loud, utterly mirthless laughter. This can be via. Murphy and her publication Feminist Current. And no longer so brutally, self...

The Superfluous Nipple

A shrine to the third nipple, where supernumerary doesn't have to mean superfluous. Three is a magic number! Tuesday, October 02, 2012. Three Nipples Point in One Direction. You know, I've been lazy lately, not keeping up with my posting, thinking I've seen it all, and then POW! I'm back in the game, baby. Harry Styles, from One Direction (girls are swooning right freaking now), just got a new tattoo right beside his third nipple. No, Niall doesn't have one too. Um, is that a Tardis? See the video here.

The Superfluous Squirrel

Oslo Cardigan #3 (Seamwork). Three is indeed the magic number. This third Oslo is by far my favorite. I love the polka dot one. But it’s too short to be cozy. And the purple one. Falls more in the casual blazer realm than snuggly sweater realm. I cut a size up from my other two, and left well enough alone with the sleeve and body lengths just to see what a regular size Medium would look like. The result: a much more casual fit, and.
