Art Words. Code. New Photoshop Exporter- ExportThis! After a long and (mostly) successful run of controlling Photoshop with Python, I decided to take a stab at writing a fully integrated Photoshop Extension, this time using the native Javascript based API. The end result is a cleaner, smaller and all round better Photoshop tool that does a number of kinda cool things. Some of the User-facing features. I chose JSON files for the templates, user configuration and project definitions due to it's ease of use...

Art Words. Code. PSD Metadata and Real time GUI updates. It might not be the absolute best solution, but I have been able to put into practice my idea of storing the tool settings in the PSD metadata, and it actually works pretty well. The current setup works like this:. On export, go through a dictionary of controls inside the GUI and check the settings. Write this text block to the PSD metadata. To reload the settings:. If no data is found, it kicks off a process to apply default settings. These settin...

Art Words. Code. Do you want to play a game? My Chrome browser split in half last night and asked me if I wanted to play a game. Saying yes turned my browser into a pseudo python console. Apparently Google has been tracking my search history and seen that, yeah, I like Python. Ok, having the browser window suddenly split open because someone is watching your search history is vaguely creepy, but what the hey, I do like Python! Do they want to play a game with me? Its Google. They do stuff like that.

Pete Hanshaw: Scratch Pad Unity Utility.

Art Words. Code. Scratch Pad Unity Utility. One of my friends has made his Unity Asset Store debut with " Scratch Pad. A handy little utility that lets you bookmark scenes, animations, scripts etc. It always kinda bugged me that you can't put files into your favorites area of the Project panel, which is something this Utility does pretty well- being able to make 'working sets' of files is pretty useful, especially when debugging all the different components that might make up a single asset in game.

Art Words. Code. Use Python to use JavaScript to get Photoshop to do stuff. and tell you about it! Its been pretty well established. That you can send a .jsx file to Photoshop using a subprocess call in Python. The tricky part is then getting Photoshop to send some information back. Its highly likely that whatever script you passed to Photoshop as part of the Subprocess call will still be executing by the time your Python comes to the section where you want to read the return data. In this case, your...

Art Words. Code. Google Spreadsheet: Script to Change Row Background Color on Cell Edit. Now for something a little different! Here is a little script I cooked up today for changing a row color in Google Spreadsheet when you change the contents of a drop down menu. When you change the contents of a cell in the designated "status" column the entire row will change it's background color to match whatever rule you have defined in the switch statement. Art Words. Code. This week's theme was 'Goblin'. Due to GDC I wasn't able to get around to actually sculpting it until this afternoon. Sculpt time took the full hour. Had fun with the ears! Spent some additional time cleaning the sculpt up and giving it a body. A well dressed goblin. Maya: Animation Event Definition Tool. The data is stored in the scene as attributes on empty nodes. On export time, the data is compiled into dictionaries that are then written into a .JSON file named after the ....All i...

Art Words. Code. GDC 2015- Coffee Places! Because I assume almost every game company runs on coffee, and Technical Artists are surely no exception, here is a list of great coffee places in close proximity to the GDC.
