Iraq | The Traveling Dad

Posts from the ‘Iraq’ Category. In some parts of the world you must be much more concerned about safety than in others. Generally it’s not a good idea to go into places where there’s conflict or danger unless you have a very good reason that can’t wait until after the smoke has cleared. Bullet proof glass is a little extreme in most places – but sometimes it’s prudent to be prepared (this photo was taken in Baghdad at the height of 2007 internal conflict). Plan ahead – and consider safety. I've learned a...

Posts from the ‘New Zealand’ Category. Jet Boating the Rakaia Gorge. With a special thanks to my family for a great birthday present, I was given the chance to go jet-boating up the Rakaia Gorge recently with my brother. However there is no photo that can adequately show the thrilling adventure of speeding through the beautiful scenery … although I’m very glad that we stopped several times to soak it in (and take some photos). Looking up the Rakaia River. Navigating the course in Hagley Park. While 12-15...

Posts from the ‘Jordan’ Category. Petra, Jordan An ancient marvel. Indiana Jones helped make Petra famous in the movie The Last Crusade, although several other Hollywood movies have also brought us glimpses of this incredible archeological site. I’ve visited 2-3 times, and would gladly go back again. Petra - The Treasury; A view which unfolds from the Siq. Petra - An expansive marvel from ancient times. Posts from the ‘India’ Category. The Taj Mahal – One of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Taj Mahal, as seen from the main entry gate. I never realized that this fabulous structure was simply a mausoleum built by Shah Jahan as a token of love for his third wife nicknamed ‘Mumtaz Mahal’ (meaning ‘Jewel of the Palace’), whom died during birth of their 14. Colette's Cottage: Two weeks in the country
http://ewe-scrap.blogspot.com/2012/04/two-weeks-in-country.html
Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Two weeks in the country. Fenton and Barbara were a lovely host family, patient, kind and helpful! Their home was big, lovely and set on 25 beautiful acres. There was a pond with ducks and geese, sheep for neighbors, a horse paddock, and amazing sunrises! The boys also enjoyed the wide open green paddocks and ample space to fly kites! Staying with the Woods was a huge blessing for our family and we hope to keep in touch with them! Location: Prebbleton, New Zealand. Colette has a ...

We also had time for a quick dip in the pool! Radisson Resort Plaza was a wonderful stop over! Location: Tahiti, French Polynesia. Making a list and Checking it twice. TAG TUESDAY - Autumn.
Colette's Cottage: Bloom where you are planted
http://ewe-scrap.blogspot.com/2012/01/bloom-where-you-are-planted.html
Sunday, January 22, 2012. Bloom where you are planted. Bloom where you are planted - that was the title of today's sermon. How amazing for me - that God would send a guest speaker to our church - to preach on Bloom where you are planted. The praise and worship time was also awesome - and I was reminded that worship realigns my heart to focus back to God - on what's really important. This is a photo of our home in Alpharetta, Georgia! I will never take central heat for granted again! So glad our lives int...

Wednesday, November 23, 2011. I have so much to be thankful for.friends, family, faith, and a warm home. I am also thankful for my mom and the festive Thanksgiving Banner she made for me. She also made the cute pumpkins lined along my mantel! A few weeks ago she came to visit us and we celebrated her birthday and Halloween the next day! Often when we all gather around the table for dinner, we ask our kids to tell us three things they are thankful for that day! Labels: All Things Homey. Colette has a degr...

The Traveling Curmudgeon/Life
We may not have all the answers but we sure have lots of opinions. The Curmudgeon’s Election Sob Story. The Python scene in question offered a trio of grizzled old guys, all smoking pipes and reminiscing on distant childhood. It was all an exercise in gloomy, querulous one-upmanship, along the lines of something like this:. Aye, when I were a lad, we lived in a mud hut and slept on the stone floor with nothing to eat but weeds from the garden. We slept on barbed wire and had broken glass for supper.

Amsterdam is an easy train ride from the airport, and doesn’t take long at all. I often would go into town for a quiet breakfast at one of the local cafes, before strolling along the picturesque canals, shopping if needed, and then jumping on the short train ride back to the airport. Bikes along an Amsterdam Canal, ready for the morning commute. Houseboats on a canal in Amsterdam. Did I say that there were a lot of bicycles in Amsterdam? What an understatement … they were everywhere! In some parts of the...

Have feet, will dance… and travel. Graham Intensive Week 3. July 7, 2014. Today we had class with the most amazing teacher! We worked really hard. Things to remember for tomorrow. 1 Initiate movement from the hips – actually do this rather than think you’re doing it. 2 When sitting in second (the dreaded position for me) use the under muscles of the legs and point your feet rather than grip the crap out of your thighs. You should be pointing so much your heels come off the ground. June 30, 2014. Despite ...
