The Travelling Moose

Thursday, 18 February 2010. Don't cry for me Argentina, the truth is the border crossing is a nightmare. Our journey to Buenos Aires only took 45 minutes and after a quick x-ray of our luggage we were packed off into a taxi waving our guide book at the driver (attempting to show him the address) and looking at our spanking new Argentina stamp (the start of a third set of them! Jumping into the bathroom to freshen up before heading off I realised that we had 3 hours in which to get to a stadium at the oth...

The Travelling Moose: Her name is Rio...

http://thetravellingmoose.blogspot.com/2010/02/her-name-is-rio.html

Tuesday, 16 February 2010. Her name is Rio. The hotel was nothing special but it was clean and safe and directly opposite a supermarket which was a help. The only downside was the waft of drains that came from the bathroom every so often but hey we closed the door and soldiered on. Our first morning in Rio was predominantly a football ticket searching morning. We made our way by tube the Maracana to arrange for some tickets to the match that was taking place in a couple of days time. Then we had a nose a...

The Travelling Moose: June 2009

http://thetravellingmoose.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 23 June 2009. Waking up in Vegas. After what seemed like forever we made it back to civilisation - 5 nights in a tent was a record for me, and didn't my hips feel it - nice bruises. Arrived in Sin City late on Sunday night so just crashed out. Spent yesterday just chilling out at the motel pool then took a wander down part of the strip. It is out of this world in a kind of how many lights and how much neon can one road have on it? Just call me David Attenborough – I have seen Elks (wanderi...

The Travelling Moose: Can I have an Argentinian steak, some Paraguayan hot dogs and a large drink of Brazilian water please??

http://thetravellingmoose.blogspot.com/2010/02/can-i-have-argentinian-steak-some.html

Tuesday, 16 February 2010. Can I have an Argentinian steak, some Paraguayan hot dogs and a large drink of Brazilian water please? I woke up crumpled and hot on the train at around 8am Hamish let me know that breakfast had been served if I wanted any but after finding out what it was (a slop of not great looking scrambled egg and a roll with a cup of watery tea) I declined. At last the train pulled in to the Bolivian border town. As we grabbed our luggage and made our way out of the station a Spanish ...

The Travelling Moose: September 2009

http://thetravellingmoose.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Monday, 7 September 2009. Is this the way to Tabatinga? We had spent one night back at the hotel in Manuas enjoying the home comforts before getting ready to leave on the Voyager 4 for Tabatinga a journey of 1 week. We ended up in cabin 6 just down from the bridge and next door to the captain. Luckily on the top deck there was a small bar/tuck shop that sold toasties and hamburgers along with cookies, crisps and other snacks. The snack bar did a good trade from us along the way as we were sick to dea...

The Travelling Moose: October 2009

http://thetravellingmoose.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 27 October 2009. Bleary eyed and all packed up we were met yet again by a very happy and wide awake Javier and taken to meet the rest of the boys who were already in the minibus along with 5 or 6 porters. We set off to km82 stopping for a loo break behind a haystack and again in Ollantaytambo where we picked up another 3 porters and had a coffee to wake ourselves up. Although small Javier told us that if stung we'd have no chance as we were all so far from any medical support, great. We were rem...

Randulph's Travelogue

This is the blog of a travelling sock monkey. Sunday, 15 March 2009. I've returned to the UK after a long winter holiday in Melbourne where I picked up a bit of an Australian accent. I've had difficulty readjusting to the cold, damp climate here in the North of Scotland and have spent some weeks recovering from the flu and then I had to move house! Anyway, on with the holiday snaps:. This is me resting quietly in the shade beneath the Arts Spire. The tallest buildings I've ever seen in the CBD! I was rat...
